Some sort of laminate like a helmet peel away would add a great deal of protection, I'm wondering about legality on the street however.

Laminating a brittle material with an elastomeric material will create a much more resilient composite material. This is the material science behind safety glass. Adding a peel away system would just improve this concept, especially when it prevents pitting like a peel away would.

Coatings tend to be .010" or thinner, and tend to be brittle by nature. I'm dubious of any claim that they would significantly improve the resilience of the windshield.

I was thinking about trying to retro fit some race bread brackets and just creating my own composite or plywood splitter. Or I may just go with verus and wooden ramps if I give up. Ha.

Honestly, I'd buy Verus and use it to map out your own template for future splitters. I had someone send me a splitter template for another car I had. It was awesome to be able to recreate a splitter any time I needed. I also shared it with other enthusiasts. Well worth it.

I do like the idea. My plan was to make a batch incase I wodded one up ?

Splitters are a consumable. You DEFINITELY want to have spares. One with you at the track, if possible. My problem is transporting them. They aren't that easy to fit into my SUV, once I load everything else up.

I think the frame will bend before the Verus splitter gets damaged. That thing could probably take a direct hit from a ballistic missile.

I didn't realize they were built that well. So basically, it should last until it gets tired of scraping surfaces?

Yea it's a thick boi and probably wayyyy over engineered, hence the weight it carries as well.

Awesome. It's good to know that I would get some use out of it for the money involved, before having to worry about replacing.

I had two people stand on mine so I could verify it wouldnt rip off with 300# of downforce haha

Well, it's the hits you need to worry about but I am pretty confident the hardware would shear off before the actual splitter takes any structural damage.

For the record, the splitter attaches to an aluminum crash bar that weights about 1lb. It not that strong and it will bend, and the splitter does brake as well.

The crash bar is only a couple hundred $ to replace, the splitter of course is more expensive.

you're telling me those rivetnuts held on for longer than the crash bar? would have not guessed that mode of failure. i wonder if a jabroc splitter would have held up better than the 2 part tegris that verus uses

are you running any reinforcements there now?

The rivnuts held well enough to destroy the splitter blade and tear the crash bar in half, as seen in the pic.

There isn’t really any way to reinforce things in the sense that ultimately something has to give.

I am running the lower crash bar to upper crash reinforcement from Verus now though and personally would not recommend anybody stand on the splitter blade for any reason.
