This can't be real lol. Good thing I'm not driving that way.
Not sure about the second one but the most common bumper sticker in Montreal is "i'm not drunk, i'm avoiding potholes" which is literally a conversation i've had with cops before whenever I was pulled over for avoiding potholes.

The GR STi transmission is "maybe" one of the very best; I miss my 2010 STi for sure. Looking forward to this MT GR Supra. Did you replace the clutch delay valve?
Yeah almost immediately.

Yeah but I'd start hoarding Amphicars for when you guys end up permanently under a foot of water 😂

Some good news for the 3.0L manual Supra today. Toyota has so far sold double the number it originally predicted it would for North America.

Stick shifts are something enthusiasts took for granted for a long time, but now that they seem like an endangered species, take rates are going up. Toyota is the latest to report an impressive number of manual builds for one of its sports cars, the 2023 GR Supra. In a statement to Road & Track, the automaker confirmed that 47% of 2023 GR Supras have been optioned with a clutch pedal. This is especially surprising considering the new Supra was not initially offered with a stick and the company expected only one in four Supra buyers to go for it.
Toyota has sold about 2,500 Supras since the manual transmission, a heavily tuned unit from BMW, became available. 1,216 GR Supras have been specced with the option. Other sports cars and sports sedans are likewise experiencing high manual take rates. Cadillac's Blackwing models are seeing manual builds above official estimates, which were in the range of 30%. Reservations for the new Acura Integra were also majority manual. None of this is mentioning Porsche, either, which reported a 70% manual share for its last-gen 911 GT3 in the United States.

Whether the tide is truly turning is hard to say, but indications of a robust enthusiast market are beginning to take shape. Electrification and the immense popularity of larger, higher-riding cars seem to be translating into many enthusiasts snapping up new vehicles with stick shifts while they can. People who may not have bought a car with a clutch pedal before are realizing they have to put their money where their mouth is, as time could be running out.
Toyota's impressive figures are just the latest story in this saga, which is set to continue as more automakers offer sticks as a dedicated fun configuration, rather than just the cheap option. Crossovers are poised to continue dominating the market and EVs will grow their slice of the pie, but buyers and a precious few brands don't seem prepared to let the manual transmission die for good just yet.

To be the negative nancy, they've also sold about half as many 2023 vs 2022 (down -44.82% YTD vs. 2022).

I don't think this is a reputable media site and didn't bother reading the article, but just highlighting their CLICK BAIT title - Toyota Supra Sales Are on Life Support in 2023

The Supra 3.0L (auto or manual) is a 2-seater-only $60k+ USD MSRP niche sportscar. For most people it will be a secondary use "fun" car and not a truly practical daily driver-- and not everyone can justify owning two or more cars for themselves alone. And it's very low volume with limited availability and *most* dealers will mark them up quite a lot and many examples that are allocated to those dealers are pre-sold from waiting lists.

Not to mention only so many people today who are truly interested in this car even while being okay with the above factors and limitations have the disposable income to buy it outright or finance it. It's not a great economy right now.

That's a lot of factors working against big sales of a very, very niche car. Don't get me wrong-- I love the model and want it to continue to exist even in a difficult market amidst a sea of mostly boring and less interesting alternatives.

It appears that Toyota will need to offer some additional substantial hardware options and/or changes for the 2024, 2025 and final 2026 model years given what your chart shows above to draw in more than the current number of buyers they are getting for the MKV.

Given the situation with manuals and dealer availability in the US, they could have made 100% of the 2023 production manual and we'd likely still be seeing limited availability here. There's a lot of pent-up demand and nowhere near enough supply to satisfy it.

ETA: given that Toyota pre-plans production numbers of everything, makes you wonder if the situation isn't actually that they had limited availability of some component for the automatics. That is to say, they didn't sell twice as many manuals as they planned to, they sold half as many automatics.

Regardless, I think we all agree that they could have sold more cars this year. The demand is strong.

ETAx2: further evidence of this theory, the A91-MT was supposed to be a 500 unit run in the US, and 47% of that 1216 overall '23 production number is 572.
