i think your original interpretation was correct. +10 relative deg AoA gives ~800 N = ~180lbf @ 200 km/h = 124 mph.

  • 10 deg: 590~ lb/ft
590 lbs @ 120 mph would outperform the verus ucw, spage, and Nine Lives mega wings. Given the small wing area alone, I find it unlikely

Good point, your logic checks out; I didn't even think of the physical implications.

Looks like a new champion for worst downforce/$
2300 euro is approx. 2500 USD
180 / 2500 gives us 0.072 lbf per USD

the v1x lift coefficient confusion thickens. i double checked occams racers blog post on motorsports wings and only a handful of motorsports airfoils are able to crack 2.3 CL. two of which I've already mentioned, the s1223 and the 9LR wang.

The top performer, the MSHD, was some guys masters thesis and he could only BARELY get this profile to crack 2.5.

edit: going DEEPER. According to this reddit thread, the v1x generates 541 lbf when the span is reduced to 65 inches. The math works out to be a LiftCoeff of 2.75, which is more plausible, but still suspiciously high.

I found some data on ADRO's wing (it's one of the last pictures in their gallery).

According to their own CFD data, it's actually only 203 lbf (92kg) @ 110~ mph.
This seems to contradict their description stating over 250 lbf @ 110 mph.

Is the Varis wing up for debate in this? Would love to know how it compares

Should cross reference the cD and L/D data too. Most look for the highest cL and pay no attention to the amount of drag which is equally as important.

I am running a 326 wing with custom wing stands that fit underneath a Infamous Ghost Tail duckbill spoiler
It is loud and not for everybody ?

Could too much downforce be a disadvantage?
Based on the edge cases identified in the article where drag outweighs downforce, my gut feeling is that the course would need excessively tight corners connected by excessively long straights. Like mish-mash of monaco and Circuit de la Sarthe.

Looks like OptimumLap is free, maybe someone on here already has a calibrated supra model and can answer the question with some real data.

have been unable to find any data thus far.

would like to read your rebuttal to this article.

All his real world testing/experience is very specific case use, and would rarely see over 120mph on most tracks.

“I oversimplified to exaggerate a point, and there are some outside cases where wing drag matters. Certainly anywhere top speed is more important than cornering speed” - Occam

Top speed is important, it’s one part of the track where time is easily picked up. If it wasn’t important then teams wouldn’t use it as a metric.

How much downforce do you think is really needed for a track like Laguna Seca? I’m also curious about diminishing returns and the threshold

Thanks! There are 3 really fast straights at Sebring. I‘m up to 145mph on the back straight. Provided I come out of the previous turn (16) well, no traffic. My friend with aero never reaches 140mph before braking at 17. Despite being faster in turn 16. That’s just one area of diminishing returns that we’ve seen when comparing.
