Glad there was no contact. Good job and reaction. Instructors should NOT give point bys outside of run group rules. Just confuses things.

WDCR does run a good program and tight ship. BMW driver was gracious to come find you after- that is the correct thing to do.

Show that video to the lead instructor. Not as a tattle tale but so they can use for teaching moment.

Don’t feel bad. There are people in advanced I wish I could demote.

It was too hot. I only ran one session outside of my TT laps.
I emailed the David Miller since he is listed as event organizer (I think Joe is chief instructor, but I don't have his info) and asked about it. He said that in the combined instructor/intermediate groups anyone can give a point by anywhere, but that the instructors have X's so that you can know which point-bys to trust, and which maybe you want to wave off. He didn't respond about whether the left point expired in the turn or not. I asked about that again, will see what he says.

intermediate and point anywhere? You get what you got then i guess. again good job. in those groups always have an escape because drivers do - well- that

I don't agree with that, but also don't make the rules or instruct with them.

so did you and the corvette guy talk about that incident?
I pitted into the hot lane and reported him to the organizer. He later came and found me in the pits and apologized. He stated he "didn't see me". Even though that is obviously false as you can see in the video. He swerves to try and avoid me after turning in and also puts his hand out the window to recognize it.

I was pissed at the time of the incident but had time to cool off by the time he came over. I told him, no harm no foul as we both have all our panels still intact but to please be more aware and safe.

Rather than reading through 194 pages, does anyone have a list of the must have mods for tracking the Supra? I've historically done 90% autocross & 10% track in various cars (Camaro's, Corvette, ND Miata, Supra, etc.) but looking to flip that starting next season. My Supra is well setup for BS class in autox; 18" Wheels (9" F & 10" R), RE71RS tires, front sway bar, endlinks, camber correction knuckles (swivel bearings), catback exhaust, good DOT4 fluid, drop-in filter, but that's about it. To set this car up for more track work I was thinking the following:

- Better brake pads Project Mu Club Racer or Carbotech XP8 (not trying to start a debate on what pad is best, just looking for something with more thermal capacity and something that won't destroy rotors)
- Apex SM10 Wheels (18x10F and 18x11R) with a 285/305 tire (something like an RT660, Nankang CR-1, Potenza Race or GYSC3)
- Verkline or SPL Adjustable Lower Control Arms (to get something more than the pathetic -1.9° of front camber I'm limited to now)
- A decent set springs/shocks i.e. RS-R Club Racer or Ohlins Road & Track or HKS Hipermax w/ some EDC cancellers
- Verus Brake Cooling Kit? Not sure if necessary.
- Return to the stock front sway bar? Not sure if necessary.

Am I on the right track? Anything you'd remove or add to this list?

Thanks in advance.

My opinions but also some learned things from tracking my Supra the last three seasons.

Get 18x11 square. This will allow you to run 275 tires as well as 295 tires and for them to have proper support from a proper width wheel. Square will allow you to rotate the tires so tires will last longer. You can get away with some 305's on a 11 (like a AR1) but for most, 11.5 would be better. I found 295 to be the sweet spot for grip, price and fitment. 18x11 +40 just works.

You def want more front camber. I run -3.9. So get camber plates and/or LCA.

If you can spring for it, MCS and JRZ are worlds better than the midrange coilovers but you wouldn't go wrong with some Ohlins.

Depending on your tracks, club racer pads will work if you can get them. Hawk DTC60 as well but they dust horribly and are loud. Brake cooling depends on the track as well.

Thanks razorlab, appreciate the response.

18x11 +40 works front and rear without the need for spacers? (I hate spacers)

If running a 295 I'm assuming you'd suggest a 295/35/18?

What abour FSB/RSB? With good coilovers are you just running the stock bars front & rear?

Yes 18x11 +40 works without spacers with coilovers. I would suggest a 35 in a 295. 40 gets a little tall. You can run 30 too, I just found to have less forward accel traction and the gearing gets a little weird depending on the track.

Sway bars are going to be setup and personal preference. If you look them as a tuning aid, and not a main modifier then you are off to a good start.

18x11 +40 with 295/35/18 RE71RS on my supra for reference:

mostly correct, there are a few additional items which are different from usual recommendation.

stock pads/fluids are surprisingly good. I've done 2 days so far (gingerman and autobahn north) and a 3rd this weekend. will let them ride until the end of the season.

not much love for carbotech on here. my previous advice would be to do a progression of XP 8, 10, 12. Instead I opted for PMu club racers as my replacement.

ATE blue/gold is apparently a no-no for BMWs and causes squeaky master cylinder.

SPL parts are also a no-no. lots of failures on rod ends and clamping mechanism. they replace parts quickly, but why risk it?

Ok thanks.

Yes tuning tool for track work for sure, in autox we're so extremely limited in allowable mods it certainly is a main modifier though.

Your car looks gorgeous btw!

Thanks i3igpete!

I've done one track day with the stock pads/rotors in this car and yeah they actually did seem to hold up ok.

I'm a big fan of Brembo LCF 600 Plus personally for brake fluid.

Yah I'd prefer Verkline over SPL but their LCA's seem to be perpetually out of stock, and I'd prefer an LCA over an adjustable top hat to get the desired neg camber personally.

I've done 3 track days with stock pads so far. They've held up great for me (beginner/intermediate level) so far. I've been to Gingerman, Mid-Ohio, and Autobahn South with them this year. Probably going to try the PMU club racers once they're done.

Just to throw this out there, I have a set of MCS 2way adjustable shocks that are valved for stock springs that I was going to use for BS class autocross but I'm going a different way with my build. If you're interested in them, shoot me a DM.
