Hello, this is my first post I have a question about my chances of getting a Supra I got myself into a bit of a situation because I gave a $1000 non-refundable deposit this March. The dealer assured me that the car would arrive in about 5 months but the year is almost over and I have no information I have read a lot about allocations and I would like to give a deposit to other dealers but unfortunately I got tricked by the dealer and gave a non-refundable deposit How does this work? Can dealers negotiate with each other or do I just have to wait forever until the specific model I want arrives at my dealer? ( I talked to my salesman and was told that I won't get it in 2024 only in 2025. They keep telling me that they have a good feeling and that the model I want will eventually show up.... Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
Thank you in advance!

I’ve literally never heard about a nonrefundable deposit. They don’t even know if they’re going to get allocated a car so to promise one sounds like a scam.

They told me that with this specific car they only take non-refundable deposits I feel a bit scammed but I will ask if they can refund it Then I could find the Supra I want faster. I gave a deposit on a blue on black 8AT I saw a few of them come through Toyota's inventory I could have had one by now but I was sure that with a non-refundable deposit I wouldn't be able to buy another one.

So you are definitely in a pickle. This is what I would do. Document everything, including that they guaranteed you would get your car in 5 months. Then give them in this same email a certain amount of time to get you the car. State if you don’t get your car you are officially requesting your money back so you can order from another dealership. If they refuse, start hitting up the bbb as well as the authority over dealers in that state, along with Toyota. Be sure to not threaten them in the email that you send them, simply ask for your money back if they are not able to secure the car you want. Personally, if it has been well over 5 months, I would only give them one more month.

I would give Toyota headquarters a call and explain them the situation and inform them that you would be asking deposit refund if not delivered. See if they can help on allocating one to your dealership.
This is I don’t get! They say supra sales dropping year by year but people still waiting to get one. As if they don’t make any money on supra sales just to keep the supra name on going.

I will try to ask for a refund of the deposit as you suggest Unfortunately all the Supras within a 500-mile radius are only manual 24/25 models sitting in parking lots I just want an automatic and that is a bigger problem in my state than the manual ones I don't have a problem flying to another state to buy a Supra. Does anyone have experience on how to best buy this car? Should I give deposits to other dealers or look for inventory myself if I will get my refund back.

Did you use a credit card? If so do a chargeback on it.

That's crazy... it took me a while to find a manual in SoCal and I had to drive all the way to San Diego to get it. Auto's are definitely available here.

no such thing as non-refundable. dealers just say that to filter out the curb kickers. it's a hassle for them to process refunds. you can threaten that you'll take them to small claims court if they don't give you your refund.

toyota dealers can't order anything from toyota USA. they're given whatever allocation and that's what they have to sell.

it doesn't hurt to ask, but don't expect toyota USA to do anything. these large corporate entities cannot do anything that deviate outside the standard process.

dealers essentially handle 99% of the customer service related questions, and unfortunately not all dealers provide the same customer service.

25 model years should be coming out soon. I.E: Starting right about now.

But the dealer is just hoping they get a blue over black supra for you. They don't actually get to choose. They just hope they get lucky with their request.

best of luck.

I just had a conversation with my salesman He told me that they can refund my non-refundable deposit without any problem and they said they can return the $1000 deposit on Monday However he mentioned that in 4 weeks the 2025 model with the spec I want will be in the system I don't know where they see this or if they are lying. but I will wait 4 weeks. If nothing comes up I will take my deposit and look elsewhere ?

Are you also monitoring toyota.com for dealership stock and incoming data?
I was willing to fly to Arizona or some other state (and almost did), but eventually found my car, 30 minutes away from where I live.
