Toyota is inching closer to releasing full details on the ordering process and pricing for one of the most anticipated new car releases of 2019, the all-new A90 GR Supra.

Ahead of Toyota's official information release, which is expected to happen in the next few weeks, CarAdvice can exclusively reveal some information about the initial batch of vehicles coming to Australia.

The A90 Supra will launch locally with two trim levels, an entry-level variant and a top-specification variant with a luxury focus.

Both variants will come with the same 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine producing 250kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Torque is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds.

The entry-level variant will come with 18-inch alloy wheels and is expected to feature a 6.5-inch infotainment screen controlled by a central rotary dial.

Tyres and wheels will measure 255mm wide at the front (40 profile rubber) with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the rear will feature 275mm wide tyres on 18-inch alloy wheels. The base model will get 348mm diameter brakes (with 36mm width) at the front with four-piston calipers, but the rear will use 330mm diameter brakes (with 20mm width).

Stepping up to the top-specification variant will net you 19-inch alloy wheels with a more premium interior, along with the larger 8.8-inch infotainment system modelled on BMW iDrive.

Tyres and wheels step up to 255mm wide at the front (35 profile rubber) with 19-inch alloy wheels, while at the rear you'll find 275mm wide tyres on 19-inch alloy wheels.

The braking package also improves, with the top-specification car running the same front brakes as the entry level but stepping up the rears to a 345mm diameter system (with 24mm width).

In terms of ordering the Supra, we already know that the initial batch will be limited to just 300 units, which is why it'll be hard to come by in the first 12 months.

On top of that, Toyota already has thousands local expressions of interest, which means the order process will be an online lottery.

A confidential dealer source told CarAdvice the process is still being nailed down, but it's slowly becoming a headache for dealers trying to please enquiring customers.

"It's going to be a mess stock wise. There's hardly any stock and dealer demos will have to be kept for a minimum of six months," said the source.

This means you won't find any situations where dealers try and rip customers off to make a dollar off in demand vehicles.

In terms of placing an order, the process is likely to occur online with buyers being asked to commit to a vehicle on the spot to stop people ordering several vehicles to later sell. Whether that includes a binding contract like the one Ford established for the GT is yet to be confirmed.

"They [Toyota] have indicated it will be first in best dressed, they are just finalising the amount for the deposit."

"Figures being tossed around are $4000 to $10,000 but they mentioned that $10,000 will most likely be too much. They did say that two models grades will be coming to Australia and matte paint will be an option."

Figuring out who gets what will also come down to a process that is likely to almost immediately exhaust Toyota Australia's local allocation.

"Once you put your expression of interest in, you will be given a list of colours available. If you don't like those colours, you will go to the back of the queue," the source said.

While the all-new Supra has been met with some skepticism, we are looking forward to having a steer locally, with yours truly also committing to buying one given how impressed I was with our first drive last year. Well, hopefully I'll be able to!

Ohhhh Details. Thanks so much for sharing. But so many more questions, like how does one get to be invited as a 'Guest', and of course, pricing.

EDIT: In unrelated news, I now have the MyToyota App and an account for it.... :D

Are you guys thinking of going for the GT or the GTS? HUD seems like a distraction but the better brakes seal the deal for me.

I am still trying to justify the price to myself..... Then I have to convince myself I can afford it. :) Brakes don't really matter too much to me, as this will be my daily and a bit of street fun, and i am not sure the HUD etc is worth the extra $10k. I could put that $10k towards the recently released TRD body kit parts :)

yeah, being rear brakes, i am not too fussed....

I'd be leaning towards the GT purely from a mass perspective

@MA617M did you guys get better or worse pricing than what you figured?
Kind of what I was expecting. Right in the ballpark with the A45 AMG/RS3/M2 etc.

However, Toyota AU did an awesome job on GT86 pricing (only 29,990 starting) which was super competitive - so I guess we were all hoping for the same luck on the A90.

Im a bit concerned why Aus is getting the bizzare model names of "GT" and "GTS". Everywhere else is "GR" and "PRO", or "RZ", "SZ" , etc. Hopefully its not a sign of the normal trend for importing lowering spec models for australian market.
The naming convention I think is just the way Toyota Australia are naming their sports models, the 86 also has GT and GTS trims. For the UK market they are the same with the GR Supra and GR Supra Pro, and the GT86 and GT86 Pro. Just different names for the (I'm assuming) same trim levels.
