Just wondering if there is a specific year(s) that the Supra came with the updated oil pump that isn't prone to fail? Thanks.

There is no known cutoff. But you have a 2020, so it's certainly the plastic pump.

The plastic pump mainly affects 2020 cars with some 2021s. So go 2022 if this is a concern, like on a used car lot. Or buy the extended warranty for a 2020/2021 model or ask a private seller of a 2020/21 if the oil pump was ever replaced.

So it sounds like 2022 and up should have the updated pump? I did a lot of searching and hard to find an exact year when every Supra had an updated pump.

Well if you look up the parts manual for my VIN it shows the 03 pump applicable from July 2022:dunno:
Not sure that actually means much though.

I am on a mission to find the cutoff. I just posted this in another thread, but I'll repost it here. I just went through every recorded TAS case in the country to see when people are having these jobs done through dealerships, and the newest build date I have found is 11/2020. Tech notes stated plastic adjusting ring and the pump was replaced under warranty. I did not see a single 2022 MY car.

So this isn't a recall or TSB, right? Will they only replace it if it fails?

This is not a recall or TSB on the Toyota side. There is a tech tip on the BMW side that I posted in another thread, but its from Canada (seems to be mostly a cold weather issue?)
And no, not just if it fails - if you have issues measuring your oil level (only reads to 18%) the plastic adjusting ring in the pump may still be in tact, but for some reason it causes that issue. Most of the TAS cases I saw were "customer cant read engine oil level" and covered under warranty.
My favorite tech note was, "customer states, believes it's a bad pump based on posts from supra forums"? I was like, THAT'S AMAZING.

I replaced mine a couple weeks ago just for peace of mind. $1200 in parts, took me 2 full days worth of work because I had no clue what I was doing. In hindsight, it's a day's labor.

Ah, thank you so much for the detailed explanation. :headbang:

Ok, so kinda fair to say that if, as long as my weekly "measure engine oil level" still completes the process up to 100%, I'm still safe?
