Toyota Supra rumored to be offered with 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder base model

Are you going to buy the 4 cylinder version?

I haven't seen any rumors of 200-250hp and would have a hard time believing that.
Its over all the net. I wouldnt be surprised either because Toyota's 2.0 turbo 8AR only makes 241hp and BMW's N20 is listed at 240hp (most likely slightly underrated).

A diverging strategy will mean that the Supra is offered with Toyota-developed drivetrains. Kicking off the line-up is a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine in two price-leading rear-drive models. In base form, the four-cylinder unit is expected to offer around 242bhp — the same as the engine used by the IS200 of Toyota luxury brand Lexus.

Interesting that Tada san didn't offer any power variants for the 86, but the Supra apparently is going to have different power plants obviously at different price points.

In base form it sounds like it will be more like a Cayman competitor. And sadly you would have to move up to the flagship model if you want something more on level with the base C7.

Its not really a surprise considering the Z4 already comes in both I4 and I6. I really think the new 'Supra' will just be a reskin fixed hardtop version of whatever BMW decides put out.

2JZ-No-Sh*t - I really hope that's not the case.

If they offer a 4 cylinder base model, I will consider buying a different car.
Not sure if I'd go that extreme. But what would piss me off is if they offer the 4cyl. with a manual option and only offer the upper 6cyl. model in DCT/auto only. That alone may cause some to go for the 4cyl. and some to walk away from this car.

I still highly doubt those numbers, and generally doubt most of the "news" I read about this car. It may only be 300hp, but I think it's unlikely to be less than that. I would expect the next 86 to be much too close to 240hp for the Supra to be sitting there also. Could be totally wrong, but I trust my guess just as well as autocar's guess.

I would buy the 4cyl manual over 6cyl auto no question. If that's what they end up doing it will certainly save me some money.

Same here, but you know the old saying; if it looks like a BrokeMotorWagon, and sounds like a BrokeMotorWagon, then it probably is a reskin BrokeMotorWagon :p

According to this, the 4 cyl makes 145kw or 194hp

On the bright side a 4 cyl model would be cheaper and make a great candidate for a 2JZ swap :drive:

while I'm sure we'll see a 2JZ in one of the new Supras, it won't be any where near as popular as 2JZ 86 swaps since I really doubt the Supra will be less than 3000 pounds even being a 2 seater.

Those specs are for the s20i. We dont even get that model in the US. While on the topic it is a slight improvement over the current 20i with 181hp.

Agree, but to me its more about the cost. I can't see many people wanting to buy a $50k+ 4 cyl model to only gut it and spend about another $10k for a swap.

I see, hopefully we will only get the 6 cyl variations here in North America.

There have been rumors of Toyota's version only being a 6 cyl. If they do release a 4 cyl Supra it could just be for markets like Europe, Japan and etc.

Rumours suggest the new Supra will come fitted with a straight-six engine from BMW's powertrain stable, forgoing the four-cylinder engines of lesser Z4s.

I'm not in flavor of a 4 cyl Supra, but if they do decide to make it than hopefully it will have at least 400hp like the upcoming M140i.

lol carscoops is awesome

pls wake me up when this 4 cyl makes 400 HP especially when the previous M140i's inline 6 couldn't even make 350 HP and other brands are struggling to get 400 HP with their 6s..
