Nice to see more numbers coming out showing the increase on the '21! The 50hp bump is definitely noticeable from the butt dyno, and in the end, I suppose that's what matters. Nice to see you here, Shiv! Good luck with development! Had a lot of fun with the OFT tunes on my 86s. :cool:

Definitely good to see OpenFlash here — I was also on ft86club, ran OFT and the Vishnu header (later known as OFH I think). Was super happy with the platform. Excited to see what y’all bring here. And thanks for sharing the dyno results.

I have a question. If I was planning on doing full bolt on mods plus Pure Turbo upgrade, would it make any difference getting a 2020 vs 2021.

Impressive. Now if Toyota can tempt me with 0% financing on the 2021.
Interest rates are so low now it hardly matters... open a Penfed account and use their buying service which reduces interest by .75 percent.

I can't remember where I read it and will keep looking but I read that modern drivetrains have approximately 7-8% loss instead of 15%. I'm no expert, just relying what I read:)
I believe what I read from ZF was the 7-8% is for better fuel economy along with another % of components efficiency to a total gain of about 30% efficiency, compared to the old auto transmissions. The typical auto transmissions before the big push for better MPGs showed about 18-21% drivetrain loss, so the way I read it is that the ZF8 transmission has about 13% drivetrain loss.

I have some logged data from our 2021 that we dyno tested yesterday. Once I get similar data from a 2020, I'll be happy to post up a comparison between the two.
I have a feeling the whole gain is from a couple extra pounds of boost. That is just my assumption based on the lower compression and slightly better exhaust manifold for better higher rpm power. I still believe the ‘20 engine will feel a tad more responsive due to the higher compression. Nothing earth shattering but possibly even more noticeable during cruising.

There really is no such thing as x% drivetrain loss. Each given combination of trans, rearend, tires and wheels will draw a fixed amount of power. Say a car with 350 whp has a drivetrain loss of 10%, ie. 35 hp. Now put on a bigger turbo, downpipe and tune and it's making 550 whp. Using that same 10% does that mean the exact same drivetrain is now consuming 55 hp? No. Since the drivetrain has not changed there is no way it is consuming 20 more hp. than before.

Of course every drivetrain is different, but when talking specifically about the ZF8 that's the information I gathered. The only way the reading is going to be vastly different on an auto transmission is when the converter is replaced with a high stall unit. Otherwise the drivetrain loss it's going to stay at the same relative percentage give or take. What you are saying doesn't make sense. Just because you added the extra hp/tq all of the sudden the transmission is not going to become magically more efficient because it's a constant. The same amount of drag will be there regardless. That goes for any transmission for that matter. Lighter flywheel, higher stall converter, billet or lighter more efficient parts are going to make a difference in the drivetrain loss.

The video that was just posted shows exactly what I said. The constant (percentage loss) is relatively the same no matter the power you add. If that's not the case, then explain to me why hardcore drag racers swap to a 2 speed powerglide with a very low mass (inertia) to be more efficient down the track if the transmission efficiency varies the more power you add to it.
