No. The ECU goes to the mother land.
Ah. Less impressed then. Kind of deceiving in my opinion because I at least didn’t see anything about shipping it to Russia other than you needed to ship it to them

That's what I suspected and why I asked earlier. Look I don't think it's bad that Visconti is offering this service, but he should be more clear about the process and where your ECU is going. When I saw 10 day turnaround I suspected it was going to Mother Russia, and Visconti is not the only US tuner offering this.

I am curious, if your ECU gets lost in transit I assume the owner of the vehicle is responsible for acquiring a new one?

What visconti is doing, is offering a full unlock - no one else is offering that. RKTunes and the others don't seem to be allowing you to go fully ecutek.

I’m not saying you’re not. You guys were great while doing the remote unlock service. I’m just saying there it appears from your website it’s done at your shop, not that it is shipped off to another place.

We are thinking of all the different type of customers we have, we are offering both services.

The only way you are finding this information is if you personally asked me for the info. The website has not been linked by me outside of a private conversation. You'll also notice I haven't made a way for anyone to just buy it off my website. I've also not bumped this thread with the info, only responding to this.

I am being 100% transparent about the entire process - which others are not. The purpose of the website is to provide information about the service, not draw out every detail including logistics.

Yes, that is pretty cool. And $5K is a lot but we are also talking about $50-60K+ cars here so not crazy for the full unlock.

I am curious what happens though if Toyota does an ECU update and it locks the ECU. Would that mean shipping back to Russia and likely paying again?

This is a step in the right direction. All we need now is for others to offer the same services and then let the economic invisible hand work it’s magic for the consumer

The dealer can wipe out the unlock on the less expensive service, leaving you back to square one...sending the ecu back out and paying all over again.

You mean, find someone else who has hacked the new ECUs and is willing to offer a unlocking service for others to use. We all have waited 18months just to get to this point - which is costly as it is. It would be great if 6 other company figured out the unlock and allowed us to purchase tools to perform this service ourselfs.

Yes, agreed. Never been against enterprising people making an honest buck but we need competition to make these prices more reasonable.

Thanks for being open about this John. So if I understand for the more expensive service if the dealer locks it you (Visconti) would be able to unlock it yourself without sending overseas? I am in CT by the way :)

Other than the pricing being absolutely robbery in broad daylight (in my opinion. They have a service that is in high demand so they can do what ever they want) did Visconti figure out how to unlock a locked ECU without sending it to mother Russia? I luckily dont need this service but I am really failing to understand if someone unlocks the ECU for the $2500 option what is to stop someone from using the OBD to upload a new tune from a different tuner? it seems like the ECU would be relocked and the only person who can upload through the OBD is Visconti.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's some kind of deal they struck with the Russian shop to keep business for both sides. The 5k price tag is a gouge if I've ever seen one, and Visconti must be smoking that good stuff if they think they'll actually be getting business for that (or either option really) at that price point. I guess if you have a June+ ECU and are really dying to go bigger turbo + port injection then maybe you'd consider it. But really for most people a jb4+downpipe+custom map is much better value than even their 2500 option imo.
