Starting 2020 with some goodies, SPL front LCA and Cusco front sway bar.

The SPL arms allow for camber adjustments in the front which is what I need for track right now. Also after few trackdays I noticed how soft the suspension is, even with H&R springs, so I went with stiffer front sway bars to try and fix that.

Installing SPL arms was so easy and straight forward however I wasn't comfortable with how close the sway bar was to the arms. Its clear that installing any adjustable sway bar will not be possible.

I ran into two problems after the install of the parts. First was after increasing front camber to 3.1 degrees. The car gained around 1.5 degree of caster in the process and the ride height dropped a bit. So I went with 2.5 degree to try and get some of the caster back. I have ordered SPL adjustable caster bushings so I will be increasing camber if needed again.

Second problem was getting the chassis error codes.

After some research I found out that usually these issues are coming from the headlight level sensor connected to the arms.

Stock level sensor normal position

SPL level sensor normal position

Basically the bracket supplied with SPL arms is designed for Supras with normal ride height, and the headlight level arm should be at around 90 degree angle to work properly.

So I drilled another hole to compensate for the extra drop from H&R springs

There is no more codes so far and the new offset for the drilled hole will be sent to SPL to include it in future brackets.

Now the car is ready for more track action!

Darth,

Great write up with excellent updates. You are taking the correct path. Step by step you can see the differences in lap times and helping the community in deciding in where to mod their cars. Your car looks great. Mabrook on all the accomplishments so far with your modifications. Drive it safe.

Been super busy with the start of our racing season and all the issues and headaches that comes with it.

Installed my old Tillett seat with Sabelt harness on P2uned seat mount and Cusco harness bar. Love the driving position. These seats are by far my favourite for track duty, and they are surprisingly comfortable!

More track and Autox updates soon!!

Reporting back after trying the car in Autox and Track last weekend. They were both at the same time so it was quite the challenge.

Can you see Darth?

Mod list:
H&R springs and spacers
CSG pads Brake fluid
RE71s (stock size)

Newly installed parts:
SPL front lower control arms @ factory camber (Couldn't fully utilize it without adjustable caster)
Cusco front sway bar
Tillitt seat and harness
Cusco harness bar

This is the first Autox with the Supra so I can't compare the car to anything really, but I was happy with the limited body roll and since I am ruining different seats I was happy that the traction was not affected by the airbag error codes. Can't say the same for handling as the car pushed in roundabouts and sharp turns.

Having done several runs in Autox I went out on track with the feeling that it will be slower and might understeer in several slow corners. It did the opposite which I don't understand. Less body roll (expected) with sharp turn in and great rotation with minimal steering inputs!

Was not able to do more than one hot lap as the rears will get greasy and start sliding everywhere. Manged to do a mid 18s with low 18s ideal lap. Weight reduction was a factor in this since I am using Tillett seat, which was one of the best mods I have done. Seat position and lateral support gave me more confidants and was able to focused more on braking, corner entry, and exits.

Darth,

Thanks for sharing your personal feel of the car and times around Losail circuit with every mod done. That flying lap looked great from the drivers view. Enjoy your car and be safe.

After removing the seats I tried to plug some resistors to get rid of the annoying codes.

Had to reset the ECU and clear all codes with BimmerCode before connecting the resistors but unfortunately it only worked for the passenger seat.

Unfortunately there is nothing out there and its a new platform so all I can do is adapt for now and to be honest I don't notice stability controls kicking in as hard now. Maybe because I got used to it or from the different setup (more grip)

For the shift jumping into auto under hard cornering (left handers) I think its because the spring or shifter mechanism holding the shifter in manual is a bit soft. As far as I know I am the only one with this issue since no one is complaining about it.
I experienced the same thing on track. It is quite annoying and I don't have a good solution when I found it. I am surprised this issue was not discovered and solved during development phase since it was heavily tested on track.

Any more issues with the rotors? Have you looked into drilled ones for better cooling?

What about more stiffness for the rear, if you are getting oversteer?

You can have a strap like I did (post 22) around it that you can just lift up when not needed. It seems that Jackie is also having this issue, and most will report it soon I guess. I race the 240i cup more aggressively with slicks/ jumping curbs and we don't have any issues. Both 240i cup and the Supra are fitted with identical shifters.

If no solution/recall is out I will look into using the BMW spring/ mechanism.

Upgrading to better pads solved the rotor issue. My car is neutral at the moment even with only having front sway bars. Rear sway bars are PITA to install so I tried to avoid them if not needed.

I meant this, to stiffen the rear, as I thought you were getting some understeer. If neutral, that is great and yes, I can see that installing the sway bar in the rear is a real pain.

What pads did you go with?
