@Dinan_Engineering my Dinan cat back, intake and inlet pipe will arrive this week, and I hadn’t planned on doing a piggyback or tune until I decide where the weak parts of the car are (6 months of ownership so far, 2024 MT).

I also got the CanCheck MFD so I can see as well as hear what the car is doing before I make any choices about performance uogrades

I just learned about your piggyback, and might add it while I have the intake apart.

Two questions:
1. Did you do any in house map testing with your full bolt ons?
(I assume negligible difference from stock if so, but curious if you optimized anything as a complete package)

2. Do you have plans to add maps in the future, based especially on the recent release of the Final Edition Supra which shows very different hp/torque numbers?
1. We did do testing with the piggyback with full bolts ons but the difference between it and with stock components is minimal. The issue is the inputs a piggyback control are limited. Really need a true ECU flash to fully take advantage of those components via nuance within many more tables. With the bolt ons you will see some efficiency benefits (working less to achieve the same power with the intake/inlet and heat exchanger) but dyno numbers, specifically peak numbers, are effectively identical with the piggyback. See some minor benefit down low due to increased flow/spool given more air and minor gain at the top with the exhaust and reducing some backpressure but its so minor (~3-5 HP/TRQ differences) we generally don't bother even mentioning it as it can easily be seen as simply dyno run to run variance.

2. No current plans for an additional version or map on the piggyback for the Final Edition. It likely is just how BMW does there levels of tuning between their versions (Comp, CS, CSL, GTS as an example) where the hardware is identical (although the GTS can get some more relevant changes) but they just turn up the wick a bit on software with each successive version further reducing the available overhead. In the piggyback world where you are playing within acceptable tolerances, the overhead regardless of version is the same, so it comes down to smaller deltas but the same ending point regardless. That said, we continue to work on our own method for defeating the newest Bosch encryption so if anything were to be released it would be more likely it would be that where we can elicit more power and have more control of various tables. In that case we would be able to take advantage of the various hard parts more effectively for increased benefit.

Are you guys trying to unlock the DME?

*snip*.
Thanks! That’s pretty much as expected from a piggyback. I appreciate the info and how well you describe the reasoning behind the decisions. I originally picked Dinan because I’ve loved the sound of friends’ BMWs since the 90s. As I learn more about your holistic approach to the platform, I’m inclined to just put your piggyback on and leave it alone for a bit.

Been working on the BMW unlock (same as Supra) for quite some time. Problem with any RE endeavor is it an unknown as to when a breakthrough will occur --- could be tomorrow, months or years from now.

I don’t suppose it’s as easy as getting a DME back from Femto and reverse engineering?

I wouldn't have confidence in running it on MT with a DP since they react poorly without EWG control(like JB4) to compensate for reduced backpressure.
@Dinan_Engineering
Has there been any feedback regarding MT with a DP running the Dinantronics piggyback? Are you seeing similar issues to that of those running JB4s on MT?

Then I don't suppose it's easy as sending an employee to work at FEMTO :p
I think its highly unlikely any company cracks it besides FEMTO, seeing as they probably cracked it with the help of a Bosch insider and stolen IP.

Only time will tell I suppose. Those in this building definitely havent thrown in the towel. We are likely one of few places that have resources to actually dedicate to the task where a lot of entities out there don't, and rely on just buying solutions rather then actual reverse engineering.

Best of luck, I'm rooting for you guys!

With a DP there hasn't as we don't do any testing with altered cat configurations. Public company so are more cautious of not doing anything that can ultimately result in legal action. That said, one of our primary development cars was an A91 MT that did not have any issues the year and half or so it was running the kit (car has since been sold).

I appreciate the response and transparency. I'll pull the trigger in a few weeks and report back any issues. I'm running the AA-catted DP.

I promise not to turn into a pumpkin like the last person who said they'd report back. Planning to buy in January.
