Then you should just say that.
What does being a tuner have to do with registering your car in a state that doesn't have emissions? This is the fixing problem at the root rather than some software fix.

Your post implies that there a way to do something with the software.

If you have a solution, why don't you just share it.

Registering the car 'out of state' offers other problems in a lot of places.

Where I'm from they give very large tickets for operating cars with 'out of state' plates.

For a while some of the guys were getting their hands on FL Dealer plates, and they would constantly get pulled over for them.

Edit: I did not forget the link, the link is right there in the original post.

youre right, whoops.

thought that was one of the 20 ads crashing my firefox as I view this.

yeah, states are cracking down on that stuff because of loss of tax income.

In CT for example we have the normal sales tax, but then property tax on registered vehicles.. my truck is $1300/year smh

Did you have stock dp or aftermarket catted dp?
All stock save the tune. On the BMW Forums, no one is getting passed with a DP as it will throw a check engine light as well as fail the visual.

IF you want to check the readiness, grab your Android phone, OBD2 adapter and the Torque App. When you are computer ready, you'll see the top results.

Just following up, over in my other thread asking about OEM downpipe fitment with 2020 vs 2021+ parts, this was mentioned:

I currently have the ETSi downpipe installed, it's also "EPA approved" and I don't have a check engine light, but nonetheless the ECU is reporting "Unsupported" for the O2 and Catalyst tests. I'm working with the tuner to get this figured out, but as a backup I'm sourcing a used OEM downpipe.
That is 100% the tune and not the hardware. He probably has the 02 CEL turned off in the tune.
I'm in touch with the tuner and we're going to start trying to work through this with the tune. I'll post a follow-up on the outcome.

At least in CA, emissions testing is more about computer checks than actual emissions. I ran the BM3 in my BMW 435i. Just flashed back to stock for a month and smogged it. Passed just on OBD check alone. But yes, they got out the mirror and looked for anything not stock.
Mirror, eh? Damn commies.

Did you give the tuner/installer your oem down pipe?

wouldn’t it be as simple as, reinstall oem down pipe, retune to oem, pass smog, reverse?

Do unlocked equtek ecus get flashed with bootmod/mhd, like unlocked ecus? If so you should have the equipment to do it yourself.

You'll fail the OBD test and fail the visual inspection.

There is NO WAY around this.
It's been a while and I wanted to follow-up on this. @visconti is correct, there's no way to pass emissions testing without the OEM cataylic converter sub assembly and the stock ROM calibration file.

I tried buying four different used OEM catalytic converters and was burned on each deal, so I bit the bullet and bought a new part from Toyota (and paid a king's ransom for it). After swapping that back onto the car and flashing the ECU with the stock ROM calibration file from EcuTek's library, I was able to pass without issue.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, if you need to pass emissions at some point don't sell your OEM downpipe.

I think every state/location/shop is going to be slightly different.

I passed no issues with a GESI catted DP and as close to stock values ROM as possible. However it was still a bootmod multimap ROM ID. I had to modify the ROM only so that the code for the aftermarket turbo that deletes the crankcase heater wouldn't trip a CEL. To be clear, CEL for 02 sensor or anything else WAS NOT turned off. OEM values.

In a state that checks the CVN values, this would not pass, as I altered the ROM for that crankcase heater cel.

I went back and forth with my tuner several times with turning different monitors on, and the GESI cat in the ETS downpipe always threw a MIL error when the heated oxygen sensor monitor was enabled. After I went back to the OEM downpipe it was still rejected because the catalyst monitor would always report "unsupported" and that only went away when I flashed the stock calibration file.

Since I didn't have visibility of the tuned calibration file in the editor, I can't say for certain if enabling the catalyst is just not available in the EcuTek racerom software or if my tuner was incompetent/indifferent. ?‍♂
