Hi all,

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a new A90 3ltr. Took the 2.0ltr for a test drive today (all they had available in the network) and a few niggles I was hoping to ask for advice/comment on:
  1. Steering wheel leather feels a little cheap - is this the same leather as on the 3.0?
  2. Steering is nice and quick but had very little sneeze factor at speed and felty quite twitchy - is this just a Supra thing or can it be dialled out with alignment?
  3. Accelerator pedal has quite a big offset to the right and I can see it getting uncomfortable on long journeys - assuming this is the same on the 3.0?
  4. Footrest feels too close compared to the accelerator - anyone experienced this and sorted it somehow?
The above is being picky but the sort of things that will start to annoy over time - hoping to see if this is just me and I don't fit very well, or if they're common issues that are solvable.

I have searched on the above - twitchy steering does provide some answers regarding alignment but nothing on the others.

Thanks all for your help and advice -

1. Steering wheel sucks on the 3.0 too. You can buy replacements, but the good ones (AZA, etc.) are a little price
2. The factory alignment is trash
3. Yeah, same
4. ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Replacement wheel is like 650$ for alcantara. Quick steering is a good thing in most people’s opinion. All the other stuff seems very unrealistic to change. Not sure you really like the car.

  1. Steering wheel is personal preference, sort of like tennis racquet handle diameter. I’m perfectly fine with the stock steering wheel. Could it have been thicker or nicer ascetically sure but that’s an easy fix.
  2. Drive mode may alter steering response as well. Alignment probably helps with this but I have yet to drive my 3.0 super hard.
  3. Auto/distance based cruise control solves this for long trips
  4. Haven’t noticed this Boeing a problem for me

FWIW 21's are programmed to feel a little quicker off center than '20s, but either way, I think you get what you get. Alignment is def necessary though.

The rest is the same from 2.0 to 3.0. I drive a lot of cross country and haven't noticed those things being an issue. Lack of padding on the door armrest and tunnel pad is really the main point of discomfort.

To me..

1. Steering wheel feels fine for a $50K car.
2. Alignment is factory and drives nice (But my car is a 2020).
3. No comment, I don't do long trips in my Supra.. but pedal seems fine to me.. (?)
4. Foot rest (dead pedal) is also positioned fine for me.. (?)

I drive different cars often and the Supra did not exhibit any show stopping shortages/problems when I took the car out for a test drive. And my steering wheel, alignment is still factory setting after 2 years and no plan to make any adjustments. GL with whatever you decide, OP!

How does everyone find brake pedal feel? That’s my biggest worry about when I change from my FK8 which has superb pedal feel.
That’s if they ever get to building my damn supra! My order is ā€œstill being processedā€ with no sign of build starting yet 2.5 months on from placing my order:(

2. The factory alignment is trash
To add to this for the OP:

1. The stock steering wheel is absolute trash. Too thin (for my taste) and feels like a parts bin component. A popular modification on this forum seems to be aftermarket steering wheels and there's a good secondary market for it. I ordered a custom wheel about 3 weeks ago and am eagerly awaiting its arrival specifically for this reason.

2. Alignment certainly plays a part in this but the steering on the Supra is definitely "twitchy" (and numb which is a bad combination) compared even to other high performance cars. It's actually one of my top complaints about the vehicle. It all comes down to personal preference, though, and it sounds like the OP and I share this sensitivity.

The wheel isnt great, ill be upgrading mine to a alcantara as well.

The alignment from the factory seems to be a coin toss. Mine is bad, its very twitchy even mid corner and neutral. It has nothing to do with the car itself. If you search around here for alignments a few people have posted before and after spec sheets and you can see how bad some of them are. On a short wheelbase car the alignment is very important to be nearly perfect.

The tires are also complete shit, if its just a weekend car or a fun car get something that is at least 200 tread wear. Im a fan of the rt660s and thats what I just put on mine.

1. I believe they use the same leather. Up to you if you want to replace it. Depending on the options you want (LED lights, leather vs alcantara, carbon fiber), you may end up spending a good amount on a replacement.
2. A fair number of members do feel the factory alignment is poor. Probably worth a trip to a 3P alignment shop to see if a realignment helps. Normal mode does deaden the steering to be less responsive as well.
3. I guess so? It hasn't caused me discomfort on long road trips, but everybody is different.
4. I never noticed this as an issue.

I’m all for test driving a 3.0 too. Observe how it drives and feels

1. 3.0 is the same; no issues on my end.
2. It's a Supra thing, needs an alignment from factory; no issues on my end.
3. No issues on my end.
4. No issues on my end.

In all, no issues on my end.

I feel the pedal thing. It’s a bit awkward for me but I don’t care at all. I think all that can be helped with seating adjustment and steering wheel adjustment. Just sit in it for 10 mins and really get it right for you

I can see how the steering wheel could feel lacking. I test drove an f80 M3 before the supra and the M3's wheel was THICC compared to the A90. Of course, I'm fine with the stock wheel coming from a boring 325i lol but maybe down the line will consider an aftermarket one.

Ive read many people recommending alignments from factory, but i've had no issues on mine (2020 3.0). I honestly can't complain about anything except getting in and out of the damn car lol.

p.s. - toyota wouldn't even let me test drive believe it or not.
