Yes, seems MTs don't have the same clearance. Removing the brackets is not terrible, as I did that for my first-ever engine mount install, but it does require removal of the front wheels and removal of some plastic access panel covers. You can get a straight shot to all four bolts on each mount this way.

You will need a combination of swivel sockets and extenders to get them all. It's a little awkward, but doable.

From what I can feel with my hands the bell housing is making contact, don't need more than an additional 1/2" of lift to get the mounts out. I only see two ways to get this done. Either lower the subframe or remove the brackets attached to the engine. The rear section of the subframe would need to drop, not sure it would drop enough if only the rear bolts were loosened. Haven't decided which path to take., not enamored with either at the moment,
Dang, I was afraid of this as I have a manual myself. The price we pay to have the better car, sigh... :(

Shit talking aside, please let us know what you end up doing :)

Ended up removing the brackets, was a pain, especially the drivers side.

Appreciate everyone's help, thank you.

What mounts did you go with, and any feedback on them?

Went with Powerflex inserts and transmission mounts (yellow), plus VTT diff lockdown. Will be a couple weeks before I'll drive it, the roads are covered in salt and sand. Also, working on a couple of other things so it's still in the air.

Wanna post my experience with the yellow power flex trans mounts. I installed them yesterday, drove it around town, and the NVH at idle and low rpm driving was quite noticeable - including adding a vibration to the steering wheel. While this might not bug people, it certainly bugged me because the car is a daily driver beyond anything else. So I decided to take them out to go back to stock trans mounts. Also, wheel hop was still very much there with the powerflex mounts :(

I still have the red power flex motor mount inserts to try out - BUT, I was thinking of maybe installing an engine damper from Weapon-R with some custom brackets instead. I guess whatever would introduce the least amount of NVH while keeping the engine more stationary.

That sucks, I was hoping to get inserts too but didn’t want a vibrating wheel as it’s my daily.

Is the Weapon R engine damper vehicle specific? Does it fit the Supra? I’ve never seen someone with one.

The engine damper itself is general use however the brackets you need to attach it to the engine/chassis are vehicle specific.... and unfortunately Weapon R doesn't produce a specific kit for the supra. I'll reach out to them to see if they would develop one? They would probably need a Supra to mock the kit up... maybe someone in SoCal can volunteer theirs? I'm too far away lol. But I do think an engine damper would be a great way to limit engine movement without introducing NVH like stiffer engine mounts do.

you'll want to trim the top half of the powerflex mount, about 5mm around where the square stud is, to give it some space to wiggle. or you can just not install the top section, and run the bottom half only.

If you're feeling ambitious, you can get small dampers very similar to the weapon R from mcmasterCarr. If you measure the distance the engine rocks like a dial gauge and some sort of force meter that should give you the numbers to choose a damper. I have scans of the engine bay I'd be happy to share. I've actually considered this a while back but haven't had the time to design anything to mockup.

I might just do this. However the more I read about engine dampers, it seems some people love em, and some people hate em... But I'm not above getting one on to find out myself if it's worth wile.

Yeah I've read similar responses. Something to consider is just how stiff our chassis is compared to others. So the NVH/results we'd see would be different then say an s14 that's flimsy as hell haha.

Was able to take it out for a little bit, still a ton of sand on the roads. It's not that bad except when idling. Have to figure out how to increase idle RPM. The power is there as soon as you press on the pedal, which is what I wanted, no lag, twisting or hop.

I did motor mount inserts, transmission mounts and diff lockdown, did not do diff bushings. Suspect if one only did transmission mounts the NVH would be worse. The middle would be solid but the two ends would be all over the place.

For any manual owners, I found this video where they remove the mounts with only taking off the passenger side bracket which can be done by removing or shifting the downpipe out of the way. For the driver's side they left the bracket in place and shimmied the mount out from it. No wheels had to be removed, everything was done from underneath. SEEMS like an easier route.

I will probably give this a go and update if this method works.

The passenger side is easy once you swing the downpipe out of the way. Not sure how they did the driver side w/o taking the bracket out, they also didn't show how they did it.
