Need to rant a bit - please feel free to call me unc like my kids do 😂

I like a nice weekend drive in the Supra, and sometimes a good time for that is on a Friday or Saturday evening. Here in the Chicago suburbs, that means having multiple people in one evening drive like suicidal maniacs when they see my car. Last night I had a dude in a Camaro acting crazy trying to line up with me while I’m cruising at 60mph, even leaning halfway out of his window motioning for me to line up. What in the Need For Speed - Dude, leave me alone. He finally gave up. Then about 15 minutes later, a guy in a ratted out old 3 series bimmer tailgated me so hard, I am sure there was less than 6” between our bumpers while going like 20mph in downtown traffic. He’s flashing his lights at me and weaving, then when I hit the turn lane, he flies by at WOT over 3 sets of train tracks to probably 60mph in a super busy area. I don’t get it - you like my car and consider yourself a ‘car guy’ so you do things that risk damaging my car? I’ve got black stock wheels on right now with all seasons - so the car looks nearly stock in its winter form. I’m not running around with a big wing and a flame tune…

I can ignore people, that’s fine, but some of these instances are either dangerous or risk damaging my clean car or make it look like I’m participating in hooning in busy traffic or where there are pedestrians.

I’ve had this car for over 2 years, and have shown people (wife, coworkers, friends) while driving that the mere sight of a Supra makes some people instantly floor their own car, even if headed the other direction - wtf? And it’s usually the shittiest, most ratted-out cars imaginable. Last night had me wondering if I should sell the car, though I’m not sure I really want to do that. I occasionally expect to let my teenage son drive it and I don’t need people doing crazy shit around him.

<end old man yells at cloud.exe>

Is this a common experience or just a Chicago thing or am I just a boring dude? 😂
Hahaha. I live in Texas, so add trucks to that equation also. I used to live in the northwest suburbs growing up and yea, nice to know nothing has changed, haha. All over the world, it's the same. I lived in Illinois, California, Nevada, now Texas. I go through the same stuff man. I feel yr pain. I guess I'm also old, because its annoying to me also. And yes, even if you drove another higher priced sportscar, it would still happen. -insert old man yelling meme*

Ok, unc. I think you need to sport some New Balance and swap cars to a Corvette.
Man, the new balance are so comfortable though

It's even worse for me, because I have a heavy foot. I naturally drive fast. The fact that I'm driving fast, makes others think I want to race them. I have ZERO interest in street racing.

It's to the point where if I see a car speeding to catch me, or riding next to me revving, I'll drive a little under the speed limit to let them know I'm not about that life.

It's insane to me how many people still want to street race here in Florida. The street racing laws at this point are basically "Get caught once = lose your license, lose your car forever, and pay a huge fine or spend a few weeks in prison" and yet you still get idiots wanting to race.

The Supra especially is noticeable from a mile away and a high percentage of Supra owners are tuners and enthusiasts, so every chode with a vette / bmw / scatpack locks in on you and just immediately assumes you're a tuner that's looking for a highway race. The one thing that I miss about my 370z is that even though I modded the shit out of it, nobody ever wanted to race me. Not a fast enough car to please most of the boy racers out there and nobody wants to hear the 370z's trumpet exhaust.

I’m not running around with a big wing
My wing brings no boys to my yard, so don't try to blame us with well endowed hatches. That's just Chiraq BS

Just wait til the little guy finds a T51R, he'll think it's the coolest thing in the world, lol.
I'm told the t51r is the coolest mod one can do to their car. Can you confirm?

My girls honda fit draws more attention on the road than the supra does.

Ha ha ha. Great story. :)
I got harassed by a guy in a new Ferrari.
We hit short bursts of 100mph+ on the highway.

Like OLD guy... 70s-ish and he had the top down and his old wife too (she was laughing) in the passenger seat.

Me... 55 at the time.

I just smiled and waved once traffic picked
up.
NorCal... yeah we all do it.

Yes, very common here in the Midwest also. Most entertaining: I had a young kid in a BRZ line up and gun his wheezy-sounding 2.4 4-cylinder several times. I let him feel good after dropping my Supra into Sport mode, and just kept up with him, leading by a nose. I thought we would never get to 60 MPH. LOL.

Not a Corvette.
I think you underestimate just how much of an attention whore this car is, even in completely stock form. It's actually quite ridiculous. 😅
9.8/10 times I stop at a gas station someone comes over and chats me up. Either asking what kind of car it is, or talking about how they had "one of those in the 80's". Overall harmless but even four years into ownership now, I still haven't got used to the attention the car gets.

Those types of people are dying for attention. Sometimes I pull away from them and once they see they can’t catch up they lose interest.

The mustang guys I stay away from completely like the plague.
