The tray overheats my iPhone 12 mini so bad that it shuts off due to thermal overload. I just keep it in my ProClip Mount and 9” usb cord to charge as needed. Only thing I charge in the tray are my earbuds.

You can also put your phone in the tray upside down and it won't activate the charging. That's my lazy way of getting around it XD.

One of these days I'll try and track down the PN for the tray the UAE cars get since iirc they don't get wireless charging at all, and I'll install that. It's horribly slow and turns my phone in to a molten brick anyways.

Much happier just using the USB port if/when I have to charge
Early model year in canada didn't get the charge pad. You can just go and order from your dealer.

I have a 12 pro. Every time I've used the wireless charging pad the phone gets into some weird state where it won't work with the charge station I have at home. Also the phone gets as hot as a hotpocket after being on the Supra charging pad. I'm just plugging in USB now.

On the 500 mile trip home from buying my Supra last weekend I couldn't get the USB port to charge my phone. So I resorted to using the charging pad. As others have reported my iPhone (13 Pro) got very hot. It also became mostly unresponsive for a couple hours after taking it off.

I'm headed to the garage now to disconnect that POS.

has anyone been able to swap it for a magsafe/standard qi charger? was going to be my winter project...
I haven't done it, because I have no need, but no need for it to be a winter project, that's gonna take 30 minute tops.

This is the easiest way to do a MagSafe mount on it. A scoche low profile 12v plug, some random low profile 90 degree adapter, and in my case a nomad base one. And the puck itself is just stuck on with some 3m vhb tape.

Even if you don't have a 15 Pro, the wireless charging pad in this car is the worst I've ever seen. It just heats my iPhone up until it turns off due to thermal protection and doesn't actually charge it.

And lest ye claim that the problem is running wireless charging with wireless CarPlay at the same time, do your homework. It's worked fine for me in other cars, including a frickin Express van that I retrofitted a Kenwood head unit and one of these cheesy universal wireless chargers into: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S3QMX36

Drove it for over two hours the other day with the phone on the charger and Google Maps running on wireless CarPlay and not only was the phone not hot, but it was fully charged by the time I arrived.

The BMW wireless charger is trash and it's shocking how something like that has made it out the door for so long.

base model Supras in USA have the tray and it’s only like $9 at the dealership

Would like to bump this question. I’ve heard of the wireless charging being an oven. Curious is this is even possible to swap out or are we stuck with disabling and just using a MagSafe in another location

Oh that’s nice, good job

can a MagSafe fit in there and the phone lay flat? Is that a pro max or standard size iPhone?

thanks for posting

dont know about magsafe. I just throw phone in like that.
I have standard size Iphone 12 Pro.

The only thing that sucks about this cubby, is that weird ridge that makes phone sit out of place.

I'm hoping to take measurements at some point (busy with full time job/masters program/daughter entering pre-teen years), and get a replacement tray 3d printed to improve on the OEM tray's design.

Step 1: don't buy iPhone
Step 2: buy S23 ultra
Step 3: charger works flawlessly
The added benefit of the Samsung Ultra 23 is that it's battery lasts for a LONG time.I also utilize the stylus to remotely advance slides for my Powerpoint presentations, instantly translate embedded foreign language text, and remotely take photos and videos without needing an aftermarket bluetooth remote.
