Would you trade in for the manual version?

Would not trade, but I’m keeping my eye on used MT new Zs and used MT Supras for future drift projects. By that time, the weaknesses in each platform should be much more apparent. Also hoping that the used market is reasonable in 3-5 years. (But not now, want to keep the value of my ZF8 Supra up until I trade it!)

I'm not switching because I don't own a Supra, but I'm happy that the manual transmission will now be offered. I've been interested in the MKV Supra since I first laid eyes on it, but without a manual transmission option, I never seriously considered it.

Now I think I have to get one.

The auto vs. manual debate is going to tear this forum up lol. It all started with the BMW vs. Toyota. Moved on to the 3.0 vs the 2.0. Now we've got auto vs stick.

Curious at what we'll be arguing about next year.
Yeah, I pretty much consider myself a hardcore manual transmission guy (been driving them since my 87 Mustang that I purchased brand new as a teenager) and from what I"ve seen browsing the forums, there seems to be a lot of bickering about the manual transmission being offered. I'm not against automatics in any way. Hell, my Jeep has a ZF 8-speed in it. But when it comes to sports cars or even sporty cars, I just immensely prefer a manual transmission.

Switching, no. I might acquire a manual and then decide the fate of the auto. But the fact that I have a tunable ECU and am already down the mod path, it would be harder to let go. The Supra was the first non-6 speed manual sports car for me...and I like it more than I thought I would. I would still like to have another manual sports car, but as good as this auto is for not being a dual clutch DCT/PDK etc, the manual alternative would have to be a great one. BMW doesn't exactly have a recent history of "great" but "good enough" shifting manuals...but that is only what I have heard, not experienced. Maybe the Toyota colab will move it towards the "great" end of the scale. I am happy to see a manual options is coming. More choices is good, especially in a market not exactly rich with 3-pedal options.

Nope… even if it was available when I bought my car, still would’ve went auto. My last car a 2018 Mustang GT just had to be a manual. And after FBO e85 it ran mid 10sec 60-130 and a mid 12 1/4 mil I was done. Maybe because of the shitty trans in that car, even with a 2k+ mantic clutch is still sucked. The last year I had it, I don’t think I put 1k miles on it. Just sat in the garage and got wiped down once a week. After the first year of ownership I regretted not getting the A10 every time I drove it.

luckily I was able to cash in on the market and got more for the car then I originally paid for it 3 years later. Parted out all the stuff and was actually paid to own it for 3 years 10k miles on it. I ordered a C8 I was done with manuals, then seen my Supra and just had to have it. The only thing I regret about the C8 is cancelling my order, I could’ve sold that spot for 10k or flipped the car for quite a bit more.. I’ve been driving them for almost 30 years now. If I get another track toy I may go with a manual, but for my cruiser/daily/fun haver, I love the Auto and me “shifting” it myself.

Hard to enjoy something you're not good at. A FBO M6 is a 10 second car with a driver.

Don't know how to drive a manual. Plus I'm already too deep into this build to swap over to a manual variant or even a "GRMN" variant. Would kind of be like downgrading.

I still want a white A91 CF with the black/red interior more than a MT Supra. I read that the next A91 only comes in a MT and a tan interior? WTF.. x2

If I can't get a hold of a white A91CF with the black/red interior this year I think I'm going to jump ship and look for a new white Cayman MT.

No. And by looks of the poll i still don't know who all these people were whining about MT?

paddles are just too fast on the road courses.
I miss shifting but imho opinion this is not the platform for that.

My daily is an e46 M3 and I will manual swap that in the next year or so. That is a much better manual platform where you can really work the shifts, 7k red line, NA, etc

It was the people waiting for them to release a manual to buy one, not the people that already bought an automatic.

I had one for 2 years. The manual in the e46 m3 is meh at best. It's clunky as hell just driving around town but it's excellent at high RPM shifting.

Guess we will see how sales are? How ever they sell, I am glad that Toyota is one of the last enthusiast hold outs...

The whole point to a manual- well it should be- is driver engagement and relationship with and to the driver. The E46 is a 5 Star car in that regard. I don't mind clunky BMW shifting. Used to it. It is 20 year old engineering. E46 revs never get old.

Only way i would consider a manual in a modern track car would be a GT4 or Lotus. Both are pinnacle third pedal cars.

Again - enthusiast is not = to Manual LOL. An enthusiast is a driver in a car they prefer/enjoy driving its not the 'gearbox' lol. The press has infected so many minds. I guess if Im in a DCT/Auto sportscar its driving itself lol. "Engagement" is a perceptive issue.

Okay, but in fairness, the 2018 Mustang GT came with a horrible manual transmission. If you would have gotten the Tremec instead, I'm sure you would have loved it. Unfortunately, only the Shelby Mustangs and the Mach 1 get the Tremec. Maybe that will change for the next generation Mustangs.

Agreed 100%, an enthusiast's car is more than 3 pedals.

I'd love to see a "manual only" person squirm when I present them with the choice of a a manual Mitsubishi Mirage vs the Supra/458/GT4 RS/etc and tell them to select the enthusiast's car.
