I know this probably has been mentioned already, but do you guys still get this problem when turning traction halfway off? Just one push of the traction button.
This is tricky to validate on my side, since I can’t 100% guess when the hesitation occurs. It hasn’t occured in the past 4 weeks for me. If I had switched off TC I may inaccurately attributed it to that.
Anyway, BMW already reported a software fix for the z4. I can only assume it’s the same fix Toyota is waiting for.

Some more people came up with this issue that you are describing but it is not exactly the same as we/OP are describing. In our case the vehicle doesn't directly respond when pressing the accelerator.
In your case I would really go to the dealer for a stalling engine. That is really not normal.

Update on monitoring stall under load issue...it just happened again.

First stall at 1200 mi
Cold start, first start of the day, first rev drop to 1000 rpm, stall within 100 ft

Second stall at 1563 mi
Cold start, first start of the day, waited for second rev drop to 600 rpm, stall within 100 ft

I will now try the traction control deactivation on start up method and see if that works...or not.
I've got an oil change appointment at the dealer next month and will be sure to inform them of this issue.

That's news to everyone here. Can you share a link?
theres no link on the software fix Toyota advised on. That was communicated to me by my dealer after I lodged my case and requested they escalate to HQ.

The bmw software fix was communicated by a Z4 owner who also filed a case with his dealer.

There is no official confirmation the software updates are one and the same, but the timelines indicate it’s likely. And the speed at which Toyota HQ responded with the advice indicates to me that they were aware of an upcoming software update.

Oh please oh please don't require a software update that requires us to reprogram everything all over again via Bimmercode.

I would be more than glad to reprogram everything again if it fixes this issue. Since it is a safety concern.

Though must be said, I only program about 3 options via Bimmercode ?

Just a WAG. Don't they have a function that holds the car from rolling backward when stopped facing up hill? If that got erroneously triggered, it might look like this. If you can, try turning that off and see if it goes away.

Hill assist is not an optional feature. It’s pretty standard in all bmws. And the hesitation happened to me once while moving off up a slope. The car did not roll back an inch - but the rpm’s just bounced and car would not move forward.

Afaik there is no way to turn off "hill assist". Maybe through bimmercode. Somewhere on a BMW forum I read it might be available in the PDC unit.

Tuesday my car is going in for the (brake) recall. I will try to register a formal complaint and will try to get a (European/Belgian) case number to share here.
So the dealer asked me to directly contact Toyota Belgium. Toyota Belgium asked me to send an e-mail to customer relations and they asked me to contact the dealer again. I don't know why I wasn't expecting this situation to happen o_O

Today it happened to me thrice. All within 1 minute of each other. One was from standstill and the others were while already moving (about 5mph)

So I just said, fuck it and went directly to the dealer and asked them to diagnose the issue as it happened on the same journey. The head mechanic took the car away, read the logs and came back to me and said that there was no indication of a malfunction. Per request he took the logs and will send them to Toyota HQ.

The head mechanic also mentioned there was a software update available. (Maybe the above mentioned Z4 update?). We made another appointment to bring the vehicle in and have it updated coming Tuesday. After the update he will again take some logs.

Hopefully the update contains the fix...

On a side note, while thinking about it, are there any people here that have the issue and have their vehicle completely stock (also Bimmercode/ECU-wise)?
Because maybe enabling the auto start-stop memory feature, like I did, with start-stop off, causes an ECU delay when touching the accelerator pedal?

Today I had a very embarrassing moment that may be related to the same issue. I was backing out from the garage on cold start (revs went down already) down a little slope in R gear but without pressing the gas pedal. The car threw me a "prevent rolling" alert and became completely unresponsive to the gas pedal. I've hit the brakes. The engine was running well and responded to the gas pedal but the wheels did not spin at all. I switched to park, then back to R - still nothing. Tried a few times - nothing. Switched to D, and was able to move a little bit forward up then it just cut off the wheels again. So I am there, blocking half of the street, not being able to go anywhere. Finally, I restarted the car and all went back to normal. What a fun morning. And that's what it's giving me after a nice at-home wash?

This alert means the car thinks there's a door, hood, or tailgate open.
Aah, disregard then. It was the door indeed. I remember not closing it fully and when things went crazy I did open and close it.
