This is the same concept EV Toyota has been showing for years. Previous to this article from Forbes other outlets speculated that it was a MR2 successor. I don’t expect it to see the light of day.

Agree, just like the FT-1 Concept. But it will probably be a a spin off of what has been presented.

The FT-Se sports debut around December of 2023. We have to keep in mind that these cars take years to develop.

Hmmm. Something tells me that a new full Toyota mid-engined AWD sports car with 400hp would START at $70k. Not to mention MR2 heritage, ADMs and possibly launch editions during the first year.

Sounds like a Japanese Emira which is already base priced at $100k.
I hope Toyota proves me wrong, but I don’t think the MR2 will be 400 hp if they produce it. I’d guess it would be 320-350 hp. Japanese car companies have traditionally been conservative on power output. Power per liter has been high, but they don’t tend to have overall hi output like American or German cars. They tend to focus on driving dynamics.

if it weights 2800lbs, I wouldn't mind it having "only" 300hp.

Hmmm. Could have sworn I’ve seen this thing floating around for much longer than that. I am getting old and confused though ?

I prefer the simplicity of the front end on the first concept. However, the second one does look more production ready. Just clean up the headlights and put on the standard mirrors like the render below and we're good to go.

That looks good! Hopefully Toyota can produce at an affordable price. If it's stupidly expensive I think most people will just go to Porsche.

I had really hoped this was much further along than they're now claiming. At least they're confirming it's in the process of development now, albeit still only at the prototype stage. At the very least that is a huge step further than the skunkworks GR Yaris mid-engine test mule which they were previously doing work on.
