When the Supra first came out I was disappointed that it wasn’t offered with a manual. After driving it for almost a year now, I can honestly say I’m very, very happy with the ZF. It’s pretty remarkable in it’s ability to be super crisp on most upshifts when you’re up it, yet so smooth when you want to relax.

I loved heel and toeing my 86 and the visceral connection to the car it offered. But the power of the Supra and the way it puts it down makes me never think “I’d rather be using a clutch.”

I’m all about options, though. So I truly hope Toyota offers it before the production run is over. Especially if it’s paired with an S58 and bigger brakes.

In terms of speed and tuning potential for launch control, traction control, etc… manuals will never be a match for the newer autos. Never. However, to say or think that manuals are synonymous for “slower” cars is just nonsense. Manual cars are very fun to drive and have a unique character/feel to them that you will never get in an auto. Personally, I like manuals and am in the process of converting my MKIV to a 6spd. However, I am prepared for the consequences if/when a similarly setup auto car wants to go at it.

Instead of raging on a forum dedicated to a car you don't own, maybe try driving a car designed within the past decade? I suspect you don't know what you're missing.

I'm actually surprised from the response so far. I thought it would be a 50/50 split.

Does anyone use manual mode, using the paddles ?
Used less than a handful of times. Its more of a cool bragging feature with friends than anything else.

If the paddles were stationary I might be more inclined to use them.

I think he’s just talking stock. As if any of us bought a tuner car for the warranty. Keeping a gtr/supra stock is a sin
Some folks did, honestly. The Supra is a surprisingly good daily if you keep it stock.

I'd consider it, but BMW manuals shift like $hit, so I wouldn't be that inclined to make the jump, though this is my 1st auto sports car.

That being said, if/when I do get the itch to go manual I'll just get a Cayman.

You know what they say about assumption, right? That (partial list) of what I have or had owned is from like 3 years ago.

I have a tuneable 2021.

I bought a fast car to go fast. Manuals are slower. Plain and simple.

If you buy a slow car for fun then you should have a manual since it doesn’t matter about speed anyways. A good example is the mx5. Slow as can be, so you basically NEED a manual in order to make it any sort of fun

It’s time to ditch the pop up headlights, the future is here

Here's the thing - you are literally still a child and your shallow opinions/assumptions follow suit. That's ok; depth of experience will come. Thing 2 is that in no universe is a 12 or 11 second car "fast". Especially a modern auto where you just stomp the gas and hold the wheel straight. A manual is for entertainment, engagement and if fast enough, excitement. Try banging gears in a proper "fast" manual and you may see the light.

I would have to disagree with you here - 12 and 11 second cars are fast - especially when the normal public is tooling around in minivans, trucks and 4 cylinder appliances - however speed is relative as we know.

If you want something really technical, fast, manual - you should try riding sportbikes if you haven't already - that will get your amygdala firing.

In regards to the original topic - the manual supra isn't happening and the car is done in 2025 - enjoy them while you can.

Manuals are slower than all automatic cars today and only exist for feeling and nostalgia - which isn't a bad thing - but facts don't have feelings.

From what I've heard the manual has been engineered and tested for release. However Toyota has not decided to release the manual. So this thread, may be something Toyota wanted to see. If the current owners will want one.

I think the younger drivers will want the manual but the older guys, probably not. I'm in the camp where I would want the automatic
