Cuz them miatas can hug those corners like they’re on rails! Anyone needs to learn momentum driving 1st and foremost. Otherwise a much lower weight & HP car will be on their arse in the twisties
Are you both the same people? Yeah, I got serious about racing when I bought a '96 Miata and started doing track days with it. Slowly modified the car to mostly include suspension tweaks - coilovers, sway bars, bushings, etc. I'm extremely glad I started with a Miata because, like you both state, I had to learn how to carry speed around the whole track and not rely on 500hp under my right foot to catch up on the straights. Hot take: The Miata certainly wasn't the fasted car I've ever owned, but it was by far the most fun (to include a comparison against the Supra). Perfect 50/50 weight distribution, a dream of a transmission with a precise short throw 5 speed manual transmission, lovely exhaust note, and of course, open air motoring.. Due to the dynamics of the car, it was just so forgiving, even when I pushed it way too far.LOL
Miatas are great to learn on. Everyone should learn on a momentum car if serious about race craft. These days a better option (to me) are the twins FRS/86
Miatas are basically rolling traffic cones
Can be frustrating when I do TT. I better put down my best time before lap 3 or 4 because then you start lapping them
If I were to do a Miata again, though, I would absolutely throw a big ass turbo on it.
