i can confirm that after 3500 miles of monitoring this situation, with VSC off during initial startup and waiting for idle to drop to 700rpm, i have not had throttle hesitation or stall occur again. just remember to turn it back on after a few hundred yards or so...if you prefer.

I can also confirm. About 3k miles or so with TC off - never had the problem again. Also - the car has been WAY more fun to drive and a bit safer too.

Hook me up I’ve been trying to get an update for over two months and all I’ve gotten is a list of dealers I’m never stepping foot in again over sheer incompetency and unprofessionalism.
Back to this thread topic, I had a fellow Supra owner ask me on track if I get throttle hesitation. He said he can feel turbo lag… I don’t get this at all. But I definitely believe him. He too turns his traction control off ofc, driving on track. It’ll eat up your brakes otherwise.

Anyways, @Tribeq in your case, like me, you would ask a windshield installer or a collision repair shop, to name a few. Sounds weird but they have the Techstream or equivalent software to code out things not available to all the third party independent mechanics yet. If they can work on BMWs, you should be good.

hey everyone, I was reading your threads and i am having the same issue with mine. It is now effecting my sport mode again. I just got the car back after it had been sitting at the dealership for two weeks last month. My sport mode wasn't working and the acceleration issue was still ongoing. The service guy called me stating that it happened to the mechanic in real time while driving the car and that it is a serious saftey issue and i couldn't get my car back because of this. I had the car calibrated and software updated. This was only temp. for about 3 days after getting it back.

Now its worse and it is doing it everyday. I have been recording this problem everyday on video first thing in the morning on a cold start while showing the tach and my foot on the gas pedal. It is not much to show the dealership, but at least it shows something with the date and time of when its happening.

I was told there is another way to find proof of this issue. By requesting a full dionostic and looking for system that deals with acceleration and the RPM'S. This should show the pedal being pressed and the same time the RPM's dropping. Everything in the car is recorded so, it should show up on they system as an error or however the computer in the car calls it.
If anyone else is still having these issues please keep me posted.
was the issue resolved or ongoing? My car is at the dealer now for the same issue. They are replacing my battery at the moment and more testing to come.

@JP_ or anyone else that might know — I am planning on calling my dealer and about this, but had a question. Would I need to restore the backup before my XHP trans tune, or does the istep update not need that?

I've had hesitation twice and it was more than 30 seconds since starting the car, but that's very interesting
Yeah - I never had this issue but I was reading the manual and noticed that paragraph I hadn't seen before and this thread came to mind, as many mentioned it was early on after starting up.

Great find! Someone else posted a card from their dealer telling them to always lock the car to avoid excess things running. Not related to throttle hesitation but curious if you’ve seen that as well. I’d like to save that pic next time I see it.

Thanks ?
I haven't seen that card myself, I owe it entirely to the forum to have found out how to ensure not too much power is being drained.

?!!! IMPORTANT PSA!!! ?
Toyota HQ just sent out a reliability survey today to registered Toyota owners, one of the questions asks about power train issues with "Hesitation" as an option and fields to explain in more detail. They must have some awareness of this and looking for direct feedback.

If you receive this survey in your email from Toyota HQ, please give Toyota a link to this thread, select "Hesitation" as an issue, and provide a description of what you've experienced in as much detail as possible. Get the word out direct to their corporate staff in Plano. The more consistent feedback they get from owners, the better chance Toyota NA will put resources into investigating this and hopefully get Toyota Belgium to get the fix from BMW to issue a TSB and have dealers issue a software fix. We know BMW has already done this for the Z4.

I’m glad they’re asking. Even though I haven’t had this even once yet…

Has anyone brought their car to Toyota and actually got it diagnosed and fixed?

For me, this happens when I let the car idle or warm up well past the cold start. It's really scary sometimes because I live off of a busy street and need to zoom out of my driveway with oncoming traffic.

It's really crazy that something this dangerous isn't a TSB!
