Over 500ft-lbs and just under 400hp at the crank...? Yikes! That's one hell of a stock engine!

Aside, no wonder a bespoke manual and clutch had to be developed.

Once modification factors in I can only imagine the torque this B58 will be producing. Which begs another question: what will the thermal limits of the stock twin scroll turbo be?

This is unbelievable, and great news. If there truly is a 15% increase from wheel to crankshaft, a 400hp/500lbft torque engine is damn impressive. Should shut up (but won't) the naysayers who hold to the 335 hp is too low argument.

Remember torque his multiplied to the rear wheels, not lost, like power.

Also power outputs are to DIN specification which states MINIMUM power output.

Same for my Benz: 437whp on a car with 456hp advertised

Here's hoping that this applies through production and it's not a "ringer". Fully expected that those 335 were whp though.

I said all along that what Toyota advertised would pretty much be WHP not crank.



As for the Z4, if BMW says it is making 380hp, then you can almost guarantee that it will be making that to the wheels or very close to it if not over.

Queue the "Waahhh but why doesn't the MkV have 380whp like the Z4" posts.

Annoyed that 1) they don't show the full graph and 2) HP and TQ are scaled differently (otherwise HP/TQ would intersect at 5252). Overall very interesting results, though..! I'm not at all surprised at the WHP, based on the 113MPH trap speed. The peak TQ number is really impressive but it really lays down quickly up top. Peak TQ sub-3000RPM is great for 0-60 but you're generally well over that in just about every driving situation once moving. Also noting it lost a tangible amount of power with each pull, presumably from heatsoak --- would love to see a datalog of pre and post-intercooler intake temps. Would also LOVE to see the boost curve..

Not sure about the Z4's dyno, but the B58 in the US version has different part numbers.

Likely a result of the 5th gear pull.

A lot of the hate could have easily been mitigated by Toyota advertising the actual numbers out the gate vs. sandbagging. I'm sure there are some 'relationship' factors playing into this... Advertised specs or otherwise, my concern is almost entirely around the longer-term with respect to reliability and serviceability. BMW's are generally great as long as you're under warranty and don't mind the courtesy loaner semi-regularly. Time will tell...
