Seems like the past couple of weeks have suddenly evolved DME unlocking.

I’m guessing they mean if the DME is relocked, no need to send it back and can bench unlock?

I’m very curious what this actually means. I wonder if it means anyone can use ecutek or if unlock can be done remotely. I wonder if pricing will change as well with autotuner not requiring you to open the ecu anymore.

Yeah I could see this either menaing you can run ecutek (but still need to ship), OR they will license the unlock method to shops to do themselves (but still stuck with mhd/bm3).

Either way, my pessimistic brain is guessing they probably figured this out a while ago, and were just sitting on it until someone else made a move...

Post is very vague but I hope it means you can unlock newer DMEs like you would pre June 2020.

FEMTO has to have made bank off the unlocks, and with them being the only unlock method for so many years, surely they had a much easier and more cost-effective unlock method ready to distribute the second someone else comes out with their own unlocks (or, at the very least, the willingness to sell/license the tools and methods to other shops.)

There's a good chance that KIES is about to be SOL after all that R&D.

You were right. Kies is no longer unlocking DMEs

That was quick.

Fingers crossed FEMTO releases some kind of self-unlock kits and software. Would not only make it easier to get unlocks done but also erases the fear of having your B58/S58 ECU re-locked by getting anything done at Toyota/BMW.

If it is a full security down grade, then you won't have to send back to bench unlock or change tuning suites.

FEMTO has been working on other solutions for the community for quite some time now.

Last couple days/weeks have been fruitful in regards to newer competition and options available in the market - but we will see where things fall once everyone can confirm all relevant details specific to each unlock, Custom code offerings, Tuning suite such as Bootmod3, MHD, Ecutek, etc.

FEMTO solution will still need to be sent to them for the original unlock - but after the original unlock can be used with any major Tuning tool to read/write/update tunes (usually only shops have these tools and most individuals will find it hard to stomach the costs associated). We should be able to offer this as early as next week but as a heads up will still require the ECU being sent out to FEMTO for the original readout.

Their goal is with this evolution is to allow ANY tool to be used after the initial unlock. Even some tools cheaper than the common names many of you have discussed here. Will also prevent having to send the ECU back for any Re-Unlock procedure such as Dealer updates/software updates/accidental relocks, Removing tune for smog/paperwork, etc. This in itself will breed competition, hopefully with lower pricing to get vehicles tuned, but also open the channel to wider support structure with regard to tuning. Hopefully these updates help to push the platform forward even further!

oh... Gee im sure they must have been... just.. absolutely hard at work to find that full unlock solutions and not sit on it since they had the monopoly in the market. Competition finds a unlock solution state side... then MAGICALLY they have a full unlock solution. What a coincidence

Evolution?... really? I can now choose ecutek and don't have to send out my DME whenever i update with ISTA..... whoopie. Competition, yea... what competition other than autotuner which rip apart the DME to perform some type of fault injection voltage attack.
