Not yet after 10 years. It is boring on the street but when you get to do it on tracks or autox, the DCT is awesome. I am sure if people can look pass that, the Supra will be awesome.
How can they look past that when the power output is no where close to the R-35 Skyline out of the box...

The R35 is heavy. So is the mustang in my book. The zf is a good trans. May even hold more torque stock than the r35 dct. There are unhappy ramblings you can find about dct's for some.
$1000 puts the supra at 440 ish whp at 3350 lbs. $60k

R35 is 460 ish whp at 3800 lbs for the newest most HP non nismo $120k.

Gt 350 460 ish whp at 3715 lbs for 65k

That was a very long and wordy way to say that the Supra MKV lacks a Manual Transmission.
That's what I got out of it. The Shelby is great and that engine is outstanding, but it was still a close comparison. Put a manual in the Supra and they'd have a hard decision to make.

I agree, my Porsche is PDK only and never got bored, plus I rev to 9k every time I drive it lol.

My biggest gripe with cars is them weighing 3600++, no matter how good, I find myself enjoying lighter cars, even cars like the 86 and Miata are very fun to me compared to the ZL1 or Shelby.

I could have sworn the earlier reviews from car and driver they liked the steering (not the best) and even said it had ā€œfeel.ā€ Now, they are saying ā€œnumb steering??ā€ So, which is it?

Hmm, but the Supra doesnā€™t come with a DCT.
It is not, but the majority of the reviews so far sounds the ZF transmission is close to a DCT (instead of a traditional slushbox) in operation. I haven't driven one with a ZF trans yet, so I cannot judge how good it is.

Power is not everything, but I see your point. But isn't the actual power output far exceeds what Toyota says on paper? Sure, not R35 level, but so is the price.

I agree here completely

I agree completely. The lively light on your feet feel of a lighter car makes the experience. I wish the supra was even lighter.

It's an interesting article... but the comparison vs the real world sales will be interesting.

The FRS/86/GT86 is an amazing drivers car (and I'm not just saying that cos I own one... it really is)... yet sales haven't really been as amazing as Toyota hoped, or deserved.

Nice to see something that isn't a "usual" comparison.

My friend just bought a 2019 GT350R over the weekend. I drove it back from us grabbing lunch today, it's a blast. I prefer my Supra, but this thing was pretty easy to get into and drive quickly(for public roads). I'm sure he and I will swap cars for a weekend sometime, and then I can get a better sense of the differences in the real world.

I owned the GT350 model year 17 and own a 19 GT. I did not like the GT350 since she just has no low end grunt you have to rev her to 4500 rpms plus just to get her moving. Super slow off the line and for me just didnā€™t excite me and yeah sheā€™s definitely a track car but sold her and love my GT 10 speed auto with the magna ride suspension. The Supra is just much more nimble and fun true sports car with a lot of character.

I was looking at a GT Premium Mustang myself, but I can't get over the new front end. Chevy botches the rear end of the camaro and Ford is like hold my beer.

The GT350 is tempting but I'm already stretching my budget to get my Supra, though I just found a dealer around me listing their GT350 at $59k which is 5k below sticker on that one. I gotta say I'm a big fan of the Performance Blue that's on the GT350 though.

59K new for the GT350? You better buy that over the Supra.

James and Thomas take the new 2020 Toyota Supra and pit it against the Ford Mustang GT with Performance Pack 1 in a full track test: Drag race, drifting, and lap times! Can the Mustang overcome its weight disadvantage to overpower the Supra? Watch to find out!
