I recently acquired a 2026 Final Edition MT to have a fun street car that I could also enjoy on larger/faster tracks. I have the common unrealistic goal of being able to keep street manners while not having the car suck on track.

Goals: Keep the car enjoyable on the street while improving track capabilities without significantly degrading NVH. Improve on-track ergonomics. At present, no power mods or aero mods are planned. The Supra is much faster than my prior track cars.

Use case: Mostly street driving relatively short distances with 2-4 track weekends per year. I plan to swap wheels/pads/rotors for track days. I may also swap seats for track days if they are several months apart. I expect I will continue to track my NC MX-5s. I typically tow my track cars to the track, so squealing brakes and track alignments should not be a problem.

Driver experience: 20+ years HPDE/amateur racing. 10+ years coaching/instructing. 400+ track days.

Track car history: Prior track cars include Porsches (964, 986, 987, Spec Boxster), BMWs (e90 335is), and Miatas (1.6l NA Spec Miatas, 2.0l, 2.4l, and 2.5l NC MX-5s). Current track cars are NC MX-5s.

Why Supra: Looks great, good power, available with a good manual transmission, reasonable weight, reasonable price.

Plan: Make incremental modifications to achieve goals.

Stage 1
PPF - Will probably do the front bumper cover and the windshield and possibly the hood depending on cost.
Grill guards to protect the radiators - Will fab some.
Brake fluid - Castro SRF
Motor oil - TBD
Brake pads - G-Loc R12/R10 in stock sizes.
Brake rotors - Zimmermann in stock sizes from FCP.
Wheels - 19ā€ Volk TE37SL sourced from another forum member. In the future, I plan to try to source 18ā€œ wheels to fit with the FE larger front brakes.
200TW tires - TBD. Considering Bridgestone RE71RS in 265/35/19 and 285/35/19; and Yokohama AD09 or Nankang CRS V2 or RE71RZ in 265/35/19 and 295/30/19.
Additional front camber - Considering camber plates and/or LCAs. Leaning towards camber plates initially. Will also get a track alignment.

Stage 2
Added cooling if needed.

Stage 3
PCI seat brackets
Race seats
Harness bar (I like the Hochman harness bar but am researching options); I should get a roll bar, but I’m not inclined to drill holes in my new car.
6-point harnesses
Coding for removal of stock seats

Stage 4
Coilovers and RSR Cancellers
Additional suspension parts to achieve greater negative camber
18ā€œ wheels
BBK if needed

Naturally, plans/goals are subject to revision as I become more informed about the Supra and its strengths and weaknesses. I look forward to learning from fellow forum members.

- Mike

Welcome! I'm a former Miata guy who went to the BMW side. Since the Supra is a BMW, consider joining up with the BMW CCA. They constantly sponsor track days, autocrosses, dinners, shows, etc. A lot of knowledge sharing at every get together.

Also find a local BMW indy shop for services or repairs you might not have the tools for. The Toyota guys are cool, but even simple things like an alignment can be hit or miss. (Hint, BMWs are VERY sensitive to alignment.)

And if you need parts, BMW dealers and online retailers like bimmerworld, Turnermotorprts, or FCP Euro may stock things that Toyota may have to special order from BMW across town.

The Supra is a pretty amazing hybrid of Japanese street culture and BMW Motorsport support. Enjoy the journey!

Congrats!

I’d also recommend CDV delete, and changing the shifter.

I am considering the CDV delete. From what I’ve read the ā€œimprovementā€ in shifting is primarily noticeable in the 1->2 shift which is highly unusual on track. While I only have 300 miles on my Supra, I have not perceived that the 1->2 shift is difficult or unusual vs the many other manual transmission cars that I have driven. So, this is something that I am still researching.

When you say change the ā€œshifterā€ are you referring to the shift knob or adding a short-shifter?

Thank you. Definitely good advice. FYI - My first BMW was an e36 325is and my second was an e36 M3. I was a BMW CCA member for several years long ago until I drank the Porsche kool-aid. 😜 I still pine for a modern day e36 M3 sedan or wagon with a manual transmission. The Supra was as close as I could find. 😁

Short shifter, Auto Solutions makes a handmade custom, and Rogue makes a kit. I have the former, and it does make the shifter less rubbery feeling and more precise feeling. Ron at AS can also custom make shifter height and reduction in throws. I hear the Rogue kit does also make shifting feel less rubbery and more precise.

Nice and welcome to the red manual Supra club! I have been building mine to basically be very similar as you are. I'm 12 months in and about halfway done. Full Build Sheet Here

As far as the CDV delete mentioned - even though it's not a crazy night and day modification, it will in theory prolong the life of your clutch and it takes less than an hour to do so why not.

Also do me a favor and go kick the clutch in 1st gear with VDC fully disabled and tell me how much wheel hop you have. Trying to see if Toyota has finally addressed that with the new FE or not.

your street car that you sometimes track will become your track car that you sometimes drive on the street. Welcome, and congrats!
Thanks. Definitely been there and done that. Looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me.

So true. I bought the Supra because it was pretty track capable out of the box and swore I would only do a "few mods".

At least you’re enjoying it! Now what mods are planned for the other BMW in your garage? šŸ˜„

Hey mike, that sounds like a great build. Im hoping to get a supra next year and do something very similar with stages like you have planned. Just can't decide on if I want manual or automatic as the car will also be my daily driver.

I don’t drive in traffic much and I love shifting my own gears, so an automatic transmission was never a consideration for me. The clutch pedal effort is fairly light. Good luck with your choice. Both options are good.

Harsh realities are hitting already. Based upon my research, it appears that all camber plates introduce some level NVH. 😭😭😭

My Verus plates are hardly noticeable so far.
