but i wanted to know if there is something better, i want to install apps for datalogging and youtube.

my current issue with the stock head unit is the audio delay is like 10 second and when i try to use screen mirroring it asks me for a wifi password not sure how can i reset it

There's not really any good upgrade options out at the moment aside from the ones you mentioned already.

There's a few MMI units that run Linux and Android, which you can install apps on, which may offer more flexibility. If you search for "Android NBT Evo" you'll find a few companies like Pemp, Roadtop, and others. They offer carplay and aa built in, though you wont have touchscreen controls unless you buy an MMI unit built into the screen. Though there's no Supra specific units.

I've been having issues with my Roadtop box since my upgrade to Android 16 update, and I've also heard some issues with sideloading apps being shut down on the newer Android boxes.

The screen mirroring is also for Android specifically, if I remember it's for Samsung Smart Cast & Miracast. You can try fgT2adiUnt for the WiFi password - found it while digging in the head unit config files on my car. Not sure if it's universal or randomly generated.

tldr: There's no good software solutions. Need hardware for the things you want.

makes sense, i will check roadtop it might be what i need.

But I wonder if there is a simple way to split the screen and maybe use Raspberry Pi and iDrive controller as a mouse.

If screen sharing is an Android feature, maybe using an Android operating system on a Raspberry Pi is the simplest method.

I found this video which similar to what im trying to achieve

As someone that tried multiple custom headunit screen solutions in a 370z... don't. It will be jank, and the 2 nice features you gain will not be worth the other 20 features hardly working anymore.

Which unit is that? Have more photos of fitment?
So it's an XTrons 3/4 series Android unit, sku is QGB24EVB12THL, you can find it here

Few more photos from some other angles:

Probably possible to get it closer to the dash, but it's pretty much riding the dash so the further back you go, the higher is has to go.

Mount:
I designed/printed the mount, it's pretty solid but I did notice a tiny amount of up/down wobble when on bumpy roads. I'll probably redesign the mount to something that's not just a copy of the Toyota mount squashed together with part of XTrons F30 mount plate. Probably print it in something stronger than PLA too.

What works so far:
- The unit itself powers up etc.
- The iDrive physical controls can control it - didn't check steering controls. Touch screen works too of course.
- It can detect reverse being engaged and switches the video feed.**
- You can hold media to switch the video to iDrive.**

**Toyota/BMW in their wisdom decided to rotate the end of the LVDS cable that goes into our OEM displays so that it's different from (afaik) every other BMW that shares our infotainment - to plug our LVDS cable into the XTrons unit, I'd need to drill a hole through the screen... So, I can't actually see any video from the OEM system when engaging reverse etc because I am waiting on a chinese F30 series cable to arrive from amazon... I assume this will work.

Not working:
Bimmercode really does not like my car. It constantly fails to read the HeadUnit module and so I can't actually code the AUX functionality in - so for now, I have no audio as this head unit, like the MMI prime, requires the use of the head unit. No idea wtf hoops I'm going to have to jump through to get my coding 'reset' to factory... If anyone knows, let me know.

ToDo:
- Re-design the mount, maybe.
- Need to design a cover the mount that is easy to remove, I can finish so it doesn't look printed, and that covers the ugly parts of the dash that have no faux leather pattern.

Just curious, have you tried paring to both the NBTEVO head unit and the aftermarket one?

That's what I did with my roadtop unit, never bothered setting audio to Aux and it seemed to work just fine.

I wonder if we talked with a manufacturer if they'd be willing to do something custom for the Supra?

I'll have to see if I can get the OEM display connected at the same time as the Xtrons unit for the pairing, but if it works, I'll use that. Or wait a week or two for the replacement LVDS cable...

There's a bunch of $15 bluetooth transmitters on amazon that claim to be able to pair with vehicles and will take a 3.5mm as an input source, no idea if they will work, but free returns so why not ;)

Ok. Fixed the aux coding with protool. Will hide the box in the dash once I have it open again.

Next up, have ordered a HSD->USB port as our HU's have an unused USB port on the back and I hate seeing that 3.5mm audio box thing...

Can you link the cable to me? Gonna pick one up. I've located a 3D scanner and a printer to dive into my project with both feet.

Sure, it's on Amazon here - it took about 7-10 days for me to get it. Just be aware that the video will probably throw an error at first, I had to head in to the 'factory menu' to set the resolution/signal type.

Which printer and scanner? Be interesting to see that thing mounted because you got the 14" wide boi, right?
