Android auto retrofit with just PnP device?

I put MMB unit in the side pocket near the passenger well and that seems to help with heat. I also changed the "Display Mode" to "Mode 3" and the lag is also more reasonable. Unfortunately, the HUD doesn't work with Google Maps on this unit.

@mack73 can you confirm, on your Yolan unit, directions for Google Maps shows on the HUD and/or dashboard?

No it doesn't. When I was testing with my daughter's iPhone it also didn't have directions in the HUD. But I also didn't test a whole lot with directions. Some quick googling shows it only shows HUD directions from the built in Nav, not from Carplay. So I believe the experience here is the same as native carplay.

You do understand you sound like an idiot right? The MMI solutions do not have the same functionality and cost twice as much. You are saying you would rather have 500 milliseconds less lag but have to use the stupid dial to interact...... Your argument is completely illogical.

But you will be happy to know that I can confirm that Display mode 3 also cuts the lag on my unit by half. It's very snappy.. Guess it's even more game changing now

I haven't really gone though most of the settings, I did mess with the display modes before but didn't immediately see a difference so went back. But I wasn't also looking specifically for lag. Good find @sharkcat

I rented a Z4 in Germany last year and it showed android nav on the HUD. I know they have a newer version of iDrive, I'm annoyed/sad we didn't get that improvement in the Supra.

As for this device, it sounds somewhat promising. But at this point, I'm ok just mounting my phone and using it directly like a pleb. It doesn't seem worth the trade offs to not have to look a couple inches lower. Now if it showed nav in the HUD...I would be all about it. I'm a sucker for HUD stuff.

Sure thing. With the other display modes the input lag was about 1.5 to 2 seconds. With it on mode 3 its down to around 1 sec.

This is what you think is better? Do you have this installed? Where's the video showing the input lag of Android Auto with this solution? I haven't found one. Or are you just assuming it must be better because you know it's a whole display?

Yeah the Z4 got the iDrive 7 upgrade - this was a feature of 7+. We are stuck on 6...

That video feels like much less than a second. It feels about the same as wireless Car Play on my friend's BMW X3. Maybe a tad slower. Seems reasonable to me.

Honestly, when it comes to automotive tech, it all feels like levels of bad or terrible. Just some things are not as bad as other stuff... but none of it is actually good. Now with all of the AI slop infesting software, it's only going to get worse.

Ordered the yolan 08 unit. It will be here the 6th of July. I cant wait to have aa. Crazy that a 60k + car in 2026 doesn't have aa
