From a trusted and nearly always accurate source at Bimmerpost:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=901686
  • Supra details: three engines (EU-only 195hp 20i, 255hp 30i, and 335hp 40i - and this means the 380hp Z4 M40i will be offered only by BMW and only in North America and a few other non-EU markets).
  • Intro later this year, common sense suggests it will be simultaneous with Z4.
  • It will be Toyota in name and body design only - everything inside the car is the same familiar BMW stuff: same options, same colors, same interior materials.
  • Speaking of colors, it feels almost like a throwback to the 00s: Glacier Silver, Atacama Yellow, and Crimson Red are coming back, though there'll also be a new matte gray.
  • For the interior, you'll be able to choose between fabric, alcantara, and leather, and (the gods have heard us!) all of these choices will be available in the U.S.
  • Wheels: 17" standard with 18" and 19" optional on 20i and 30i, 18" standard and 19" optional on 40i.
  • 40i gets standard M sport diff, while on 30i it will be optional in something that BMW would call "ZMP".
  • Market positioning for the car seems to be distinctly lower than BMW, for example, the barebones 30i will have manual seat adjustments and no nav system.
  • And, finally (que the sad trombone): all models are automatic only.

Hmm What AM I driving?
interesting, Thanks for sharing.... I'm not surprise on the auto only and we're not getting any 4 cylinder. I was hoping we get at least one and manual but guess not. No I4 however opens up options, in case the next 86 will be 4 cylinder... with bigger displacement or turbo we will see.

Pretty much exactly what I was expecting at this point. Manual seats on 30i probably means lightness is important! Can't wait to drive one.

Nice!

I wonder what market value below BMW means. I'll def buy one if its not in the 60k range.

I'm assuming it'll be between 45k-55k fully loaded. I'm basing this off the price of a m240i which has the same engine.

Zero changes on the interior? Wow, I don't know how I feel about that.

I have avoided BMW for the weird quirks with iDrive systems; like not being able to replace the head with anything other than a BMW iDrive unit, difficult to replace the amps, certain features being deliberately turned off, deep integration with the rest of the car making it required to stay in the car even decades down the road, the proposed annual subscription for Apple Carplay, no plans for Android auto support, etc. This is not to mention that BMW has a very unique and distinct look, and that seems odd that Toyota would be OK with that? If it were a unique interior that is different from any car out there and that so happened to be shared with the Z4, then it would be a different thing; like the 86 and BRZ.

It also seems counterintuitive with the public statements by Toyota taking development of this car so seriously, but to leave the only differentiators between the Supra and Z4 being body panels and badges.

335hp that's it? Didn't the last Supra have 330 hp, 25 years ago? This thing is ending up a much different car than I was hoping for.

Until BMW and Toyota say officially that there's no manual, I won't give up hope. Probably pretty safe to bet 2 engines and it start below the BMW. I always expected something in the mid to upper 40s...

With the cheaper expected price by carrying over so much BMW content instead of developing from scratch, the sales volume should be higher and therefore the amount of aftermarket development.

Stock-markets are shaky right now (with much more significant crash due 30-50% total fall) and a more budget focus supra is good in the likely environment for the next few years. I am sure they will make specialty faster models part way through the model cycle.

Yeah, which is meh, but still preferred over an e-diff for sure. Never driven an e-diff I've enjoyed, but I've been known to tax diffs more than most lol. Let's just be happy its not an open diff! That would have been enough for me to not even consider purchasing the car loll
