The 3rd Gen FD was definitely one of my "dreamers" in the late 90's... unfortunately I was only playing with "civic money" back then and had to settle for cars that I could put 300K miles on without any significant mechanical issues. I drooled over a friend's FD... but I think he had as many engine replacements as I had oil changes (which I only did every ~25K miles). God I abused the crap out of that car... and it never let me down once.
I know that had a great deal to do with my affinity for a manual transmission. Just the comfort in knowing that there was so little that could go wrong - with almost no computers involved and direct mechanical connections between me and the car in every way. Even had manual windows and door locks... so a can of WD-40, a spool of wire, some duct tape, and a screwdriver was enough to fix nearly any issue that came up.
