Guess I’m lucky we have good gas and I‘m not setup for alternate fuel ?‍♂. We all, Supras Porsche Vetts, run down to the quickest station in Homestead and Sebring, pump some 93 and hakuna matata. I literally have got to the reserve fuel light a few times. The car was fine… Another pure Stock engine Supra buddy goes to 1/3 and refuels. Granted I don’t want to go that low, but sometimes our sessions can be 30 minutes or longer and I’m “that guy” who doesn’t want to leave and last one off the track at the end of the day…. Anyways, I’m lucky not to get fuel starvation, I suppose.

As far as the nannies, @tomfree is spot on! If at a new track and you’re not Mario Andretti, turn that shit on, lol. My dumb reference is when you are hammering on the same track you know inside and out and want to learn your (and the cars) limits. There is a very fine line and it’s absolutely a blast, imo, to drive in/on/around that line. Especially in areas on the track where driving skillfully (not ape’ish lol) can really make a difference. It’s totally a feel thing and with instruction, it will absolutely help your times go down. If that’s your interest… @Rocksandblues would fit this category perfectly! Having an open mind, been doing this a while, interested in improving - going faster. I guarantee your times will go down drastically. Trying to remember some of the guys in your area (CJ Wilson, Christian Szymczak, Nathanial Sparks, Glenn McGee, to name a few), that would be phenomenal for instruction. Absolutely fantastic drivers and you won’t regret getting instruction from them. Also, they are some of the coolest, nicest, down to earth peeps you’ll ever meet… The last 3 especially I knew well. Now that I’m driving again, will hit these guys up & get them in my car ASAP! It’ll also save a ton of headaches if anything is set up improperly (that’s me for sure!). They’ll know just by driving the car.

Edit: Also, go talk to the guys truly racing at your local track. That’s how I met everyone back in my days of more serious tracking. Sebring is notorious for lots of pros hanging out & testing stuff. I’m sure there are lots of similar tracks around the country like this.

Everyone could use instruction for sure... I am not quite the ape i say. Finished 2nd to another more HP and suspension Supra in MAx 2 SCCA TT this year. I am well above average and actually instruct several times a year.

Project Mu pads are very good and certainly less than CSG. CSG are better- just depends on how important a couple .10ths are to you on the track really.

video is VIR last fall running 207s and blowing doors off 1Les, z06, etc

For the record I freely admit there are plenty of better drivers than me, faster cars, more skill, etc.
I am having a blast and enjoy sharing info and meeting new people in the paddock.

Sub 2:10 at VIR-F in a street car is quick. I have probably over 1K laps at VIR over the last 20 years, and I've been sub 2:10 only a couple of times...and all from the passenger seat. The fastest I've ever been as a driver was about 2:15 in my old Boss's BMWCCA I-Prepared M3. That car had a decent aero package, so the uphill esses were glorious. Gearing was short, so it topped out 5th gear at 135 on the straights.

I will freely admit, I'm not the "fast guy", but I know a little. My best skillset is my credit card, but a close runner up is being an enabler. ;)

So great discussion and good to see there are a few more track addicts out their. Now that the instruction has come up, I would really love to have some of the new people that are getting ready to do their first track day, or those that want to do a few more jump in and share what their questions are or what we can do to help you get out there and have more fun with your cars. Not everyone has to go to the same extremes. I right seat for NASA as an instructor and am the main person for the Toyota program in our region, so get all the HPDE 1 students with Supra's and now the GR 86. To me it is about learning car control and not trying to go fast, Smooth inputs, learning the line and getting comfortable in traffic. All of which also makes you a better driver on the street. So do not be afraid to jump as there are no dumb questions - we all did our first track days and felt intimidated by all those fast guys coming up in the rear view mirror, then got hooked!

The fuel-starve experience disparity is interesting. CMP's "carousel" is a right hand double-apex (which this car does very well if you set up the line correctly - something I struggle with) which sounds prime to experience the issue, but having run down to 1/4 or less few times I've never once had a problem. Turn 13 as well.

RE: VIR

I guess I don't feel so bad about my VIR lap times. I was having major GPS issues my first time there so TrackAddict was pretty much a fail, but the few laps it recorded on day 2 I was in the 2:12 - 2:14 range. I feel a had a few cleaner laps that it didn't record; I may go back through the data and line up some visual cues on those laps just out of curiosity. I need to review some of that anyway since I'll be there 2/18 - 2/19 (and spots are still open is anyone is interested - fantastic event!) though not in the Supra.

Something about the stock suspension makes the high speed/upper esses very sketchy. I was progressively lowering my entry speed there after getting too unsettled and then spooked which put a hurting on my numbers.

And FWIW I have to humble brag since I think it's impressive -- a buddy of mine with a basically stock ZL1 ILE M7 runs 2:02 on MP4S and 1:58 on R7. Dude is a monster driver!

I will say, fuel starve has been much less common for me than heatsoak has been.

I got super sketched on my stock struts on the uphill esses.
127mph and i was probably just over the line of smart/safe. had two wheels up often.

Supra friend can run 2;03s with a real suspension and more power. My set up has 2:05s if the driver was better... need more balls coming through 10 and more skill through hogpen.

1:02 even in a ZL1 1LE is a very high skill level the 1le are super legit and way better out of the box than our Supras- for the track

my friend w a GT3 cup car runs 1:55 and maybe faster. I need to dig out his videos. crazy crazy Always someone better and I love following people.

will be back 3/4-5

My areas of issue on CMP are both carousels; T6 and the whole way between T12 and 13, at VIR it was really only oak tree and I wasnt as diligent to keep the tank full so I was really surprised. At NCCAR I figured I was going to basically be starving 70% of the track but I surprisingly didnt have more than one or 2 instances all weekend of it. The issue is definitely track and driver dependent.

Sounds right but I must not be quick enough to induce it. What tire are you on?

FYI TurnOne just released their 2023 calendar for CMP so I'll be there 2/24, 3/10 and 3/24.

127MPH :confused1: I was at 115MPH and sketched out and yeah, turn 10 requires ballz.

16-17 was a trouble area for me. Curious how others approach it. I was advised to brake before 15 and then be flat (or as much as possible) through 16-17 but I was much more comfortable essentially trail braking through 16 otherwise I felt like I would understeer and go off at 17.

I stick with the 200tw but PB'd 1.40.6 on 315 rt660s and 1.40.4 on 265 a052's. Ill be back out there for Gridlife at the end of March but looking forward to any open-day, PCA or SCCATT events there during the rest of the year.

Do you usually do the TurnOne days? I was curious if they get good groups out there for them.

I ran at 3 of their events last year and they're a good bang for the buck, IMO. Good amount of track time with 6x 20 min sessions per day and the Blue and Red groups are typically not too crowded with a good pace.

Here's the schedule from the last HPDE I ran; the 2/24 and 3/24 are HPDE days so I would assume the same. The 3/10 is no HPDE so that should be hot track all day with no run groups.

Right handers is definitely the place for fuel starve, especially the longer fast ones where you've got the car loaded for a bit. COTA carousel it did it to me every time if I went more than 2 laps. E50 blend, but that was going out on a full tank each session so Lap Battle last year kinda sucked.

Local tracks it'll do it in a few places, but not as quickly as COTA.
