Just got my Supra 2 weeks ago and Toyota has to pay for my keys for 5 years if I lose them, i got that package for free when i bought the wheel/tire protection pack. Ill be curious how that works lol
I was just wondering this as well. Wonder how they're going to handle all those key replacement warranties

I’d imagine pricing would stay about the same?

This. Manufacturers are required to produce replacement parts for a certain period after production stops. I can’t remember specifics but from I recall it was a pretty long timeframe. Like 10 or 20 years??
for some reason i want to say it's 25 yrs, but i'm sure someone could have already google'd the answer by now lol.

No, these newer Body Domain Controllers in our cars (and G-series BMW) cannot be reprogrammed with different keys. Similarly, if you found a matching set of keys + BDC, you still wouldn't be able to use it to start your car because of things such as information mismatch between DME and BDC.

If you lose all your keys, you have to get a replacement BDC + keys from BMW, and the dealer has to program it to your car.
Damn…I’m putting my spare in a vault. Sounds like a big mess to have them replaced.

When I bought Highlander for my wife it came with one key but we were assured by dealership that they will give us a second key later which they did like about 7-8 months later free of charge. You should tell the dealership you need your second key and it should come with it. Bought my Supra the same day and came with 2 keys

You don’t need to replace the BDC if you lose all your keys. The Toyota repair manual says you do but thats false. The new key will arrive preprogrammed for your car. You go through the quick process to activate it per the owners manual and you’ll be good to go. Unfortunately, I am speaking from experience… I just went through all this

Good to know! Others have had to replace it so I was speaking from anecdotal knowledge.

Late to the party but I have a question. Can you buy a used supra key fob $50-100, and get it rekeyed and programmed?

i just had a dealer say he could but that it might not accept the programming. In that case theyd still charge for the labor.

You car will only remember 2 keys in the CAS module, and they must be programed.
You can always order an uncut BMW G Series key and have them cut and then program/overwrite the CAS1/CAS2 in your car.

When I recently went to a nearby Costco (Southern CA), there were two guys inside of the entry who replace car keys/fobs. It might be worth checking them out. There are working with Costco.
