So, the C8 Corvette was revealed. Confirmed with 495hp, 0 to 60 in under 3 sec for $59,999.

How many of you will option out from buying a MK5?

On first looks, it seems that GM did with the C8, what Toyota did with the MK4 Supra back in 1993: performance that destroys direct competition and matches cars that are much more expensive.

And when comparing the MK5 with the C8, in markets outside USA, it looks even worse for the Toyota as prices are ridiculously high.
Ex
In the US, C7 Corvette is $57k. Supra is $50k, C8 is $59,999.
In Canada, C7 Corvette is $65k. Supra is $65k. C8 should be below $70k.

Even the interior of the C8 would have been a perfect successor to the Supra MK4.

I don't love it, but it does seem like a significant problem for the Supra (and everything else). Which car would I rather have? Supra. Which car would I rather spend $60k on? Really hard to justify the Supra at this point.

Seems like for the first time the Corvette will be available right hand drive so will be very interesting for the UK market. The only thing is the price. If they match the US prices for the UK then it would be amazing, but they never do.

Base C7 in the UK (left hand drive but still from official UK site) STARTS at equivalent of $91,500 including tax when directly translated from GBP.

Depending on build quality etc it might flop in the European markets at that price. The US gets it for a steal and no question I'd be extremely interested. As it stands though in the UK market I wouldn't trade the Supra for one.

I mean regardless of build quality (which is a big deal), that's a hell of a car for under $60k. On paper it just doesn't look too good for the Supra.

Well to tell the truth I never thought about the new Corvette, just assumed it would be too expensive. But now looking at some photos and seeing the 59,999 starting price it sure makes me think twice. I am waiting to decide as I still have not seen the Supra in person. My deposit is fully refundable so we will see. Time to do research on this Corvette. Should be available early next year from what I see. Check out the photos on line, the car looks pretty sweet.

not really. I see it as a blessing. This should wake Toyota up and make them warn those crazy dealers about there mark up.But we don't know if Corvette dealers will also be doing some mark up. its definitely a fun time. the performance is not all that, it's the pricing that I find impressive. on paper the supra looks more impressive. The pressure is heavier on Porsche than Toyota. Especially with the kind of people that buy the corvette. There is definitely going to be more cross shopping with the corvette than supra.

When you see the supra in person it might make your decision even harder. First car I've ever seen and really gave me a vibe to go for a spin. other cars I Just admire.

C8 mid engine Corvette is a beauty. And a performer thats for sure. I love the fact that they went mid engine on the Vette. I've always felt that the corvette should have been mid or rear engine once it started pretty much being a supercar. They could leave the camaro as front engine. Much welcomed update from GM.

But to put it in perspective in comparison to A90. if you're worried about power Stock for Stock, the A90 will make 500whp with just a meth kit and downpipe and tune if the turbo is the same flow as the bmw counterpart. I only mention power, since that seems to be most peoples biggest issue with the A90. C8 being 495hp rated at the crank is A90 tune only power. Realistically i feel the A90 stock for stock with minimal investment post purchase has more power potential. Now getting into the aftermarket upgrades it'll be interesting. Vette has the displacement adavntage of course. so in terms of FI, both have potential but Vette has the immediate advantage. But the B58 is 700-750whp capable with just turbo upgrade and fuel and tune. Over that you should do rods and pistons. Vette will make that power too with a turbo or supercharger kit.

I think this choice boils down to which car do you like more for the same money just about.

I like the front and the rear, not so sure about the side profile though.

It looks to stretched from the seats backwards.

What the C8 makes plain and bare to me is that Toyota was most concerned about making money with the Supra. They made a huge stink about needing to go to BMW to make a sports car affordable, and we were left with a car that doesn’t have anything particularly special. If they needed to split costs on a new carbon tub, a new DCT, a new engine.. I would get it. But it’s a ZF gearbox mated to an X5 engine. Toyota is the world’s largest manufacturer. C’mon.

If Chevrolet can make a bespoke mid engine platform with a bespoke DCT mated to a V8... heck if Alpine can make a bespoke mid engine platform for its A110... then Toyota should be able to make a bespoke FR platform for its flagship too. I was really hot on the Supra before but this C8 has really changed my perception on what is possible for $60k.
