The real question is:

Do you want to explain to folks why you bought a fugly car?

The G87 looks like an F87 M2 that came out of the mold deformed.

Also, the S58 sounds horrendous.

Lastly, iDrive 8 is

Am I wrong to think that a built M240xi with AWD would likely be easiest and fastest way to a 9 second car at the strip? Not only is the car cheaper, but the added AWD would be a significant advantage in putting the power down.

Regardless, I don’t think many people buy the Supra or M2 with the intentions of maximizing the drag strip potential. These are sports cars first, daily drivers second. They are meant for back road fun, track days, while offering a decent amount of livability for daily use.

I test drove a F87 M2 comp before buying the Supra. After all the M2 is still a modified 2 series instead of a dedicated sports car. If you need the space, M2 would be a good choice. But Supra 3.0 MT has superior chassis.

For all those who have driven or used to own an F87 M2/M2C, do you have any comparisons to make between them and the Mk5 Supra? Debating on whether it's worth it to find a manual mk5 or stick to a manual M2.

For performance, the Supra is a huge bargain. There’s no denying it. We love the Supra for its BMW DNA ?. So where’s the disconnect? The BMW M cars a badass but heavy. It’s that simple for me driving on a track.

For the in town drivers that can afford it… the BMWs are nice, have a back seat, and all the latest goodies, solid as hell.

For the drag people, I haven’t a clue. But mega impressed what Zack, Jesse and others can get out of this engine and chassis ?

As for looks… It’s a personal thing. Damn people ?

Almost everyone in this thread doing direct comparisons aren’t even using correct data.

M2 better chassis. No
Only 500 Supra manuals. No
900hp max. No
And on and on and on. Opinions are the new facts I guess.
Yeah, this thread is horseshit.

F87 and F80/82 all drive the same
The S55 SOUNDS LIKE ASS
I've had 2 F80s and the Supra is the superior car
The chassis is compliant while maintaining it's excellent handling
The bmw is very stiff, almost jarring , especially when it had coilovers
I can't convince myself to get into another NEW M car when I found out they're damn near 4000lbs

That first one, well isn't a better chassis subjective? You have to put it into context, like, it has a superior chassis for track days, or it has a better chassis for daily driving, etc.

Lastly, all of these opinions are kind of premature due to the fact that the M2 hasn't been reviewed and definitely haven't been driven by anyone on here.

When I comment on the new M2 I only go with what I know and make assumptions about other things (like it will likely be faster on the track than a stock Supra).

I agree with @zrk. This thread really went off the rails. I’d wait until reviews and real numbers are presented.

This thread over at Bimmerpost has some of the best shots of the G87 M2 I've seen to date. These were taken very recently in AZ.

https://g42.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2000498

I still think the looks are pretty divisive, but have to admit it's growing on me quite a lot. Especially in Brooklyn Grey. I have a feeling these cars will look much better in person (assuming you can stomach them at all in pictures as well).

Like others have mentioned, one of my biggest concerns with this car is weight. I test drove the G42 M240i on one of my favorite canyon roads and it felt like a fat lazy pig. Super capable and comfortable car, but incredibly boring for what I'd want to use it for.
