2018 M2 vs 2023 Supra vs 2023 M2, all manual, all on the same tires, driven by the same pro driver. Love when they do these comparisons. The only thing that I think would have made this better is if they had the previous BMW 1M and maybe the current Cayman S. Just to see the progression from the past for the BMW M's and the other big competitor for the current Supra and M2

They had a typo so Supra should be 1:33:72 vs 1:33.94 of the 2023 M2. Still very impressive for the Supra as I was expecting the M2 to win especially after Jackie Ding's rave review of the new M2. I'm still shocked the M2 is as heavy as an M3/M4, but this has been the case even in the last generation. Dynamically the supra beats the M2.

I was originally looking at a manual supra, but started looking at the M2. I went to a local dealer who had one on display and they also had an M4 on display. In person the grill on the new M3/M4 is much better in person and growing on me. The new M2 in person also doesn't look bad and definitely grows on you easier than the M3/M4. I still found the supra to be the much better looking car.

I am currently deciding to go with the M3 and still get a supra in the future. My line of thought is might as well have the full practicality of a 4 door sedan rather than the half measure of the M2. I can have my daughter in her car seat in the back and keep potentially the manual M3 in the garage with room in the garage in the future for a dedicated 2 door sports car like the Supra or Cayman. I test drove a 992 4S and honestly wasn't as blown away as I was expecting it to be, especially for a 150k car.

Why the hell is this 22 pages long????? Who the fuck cares???
Here's a bizarre thing about the internet: Sometimes, people like to engage in conversation. It works a lot like real life that way.

Like, when you're at a bar, and you turn to the guy next to you and start a conversation with him because it's sunday afternoon and you're bored as fuck. Except rarely in the bar situation does someone walk in between your conversation say, 'how you have you two idiots been talking for two hours? Who the fuck cars about the Cubs' and walks off.

Haha. I was about to say: some of us care. I’ve been cross shopping the F87 and Supra for a long time, and now the G87 as well.

It is now, ugly, fat, sounds bad, goes bad (stock) and costs more, and the interior is straight up riceroni.

Haiyaaaa.

2023 BMW M2 First Test: We Knew It Would Be Good … But *This* Good?
Even this base model outperforms all previous M2 variants, including the M2 Competition and CS.

The numbers people are obsessed with found here: https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2023-bmw-m2-first-test-review/

M2 Acceleration
With its seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and launch control, the old M2 CS managed a very good 1.7-second dash from 0 to 30 mph. (Any time below 2.0 seconds is very good, especially with two-wheel drive). Also utilizing launch control but with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, the 2023 M2 manages to beat that with a 1.5-second sprint. We found the sweet spot on the new 10-position traction control to be about 3-4 away from none, and even then the car easily roasts its rear tires. In the 0-60 run, the new M2 was 0.4 second quicker than the previous car, with a surprising 3.6-second time. Racing to 100 mph in 8.1 seconds, it beat the old by 0.6 second. This base 2023 M2 also beat the max-performance 2020 M2 CS in the quarter mile, 11.8 seconds at 120.3 mph to 12.2 seconds at 119.7 mph.

I don't think anyone was expecting it to be slower than the previous generation (or the Supra for that matter). So this was always assumed. This is important for those that go to the drags, but for everyday, you aren't really going to feel much difference between these vehicles, we are talking about less than half a second difference.

I will be most interested to see how it does at this coming years Car and Drivers Lightning Lap, that's where we will see how big of a performance gain it is compared to the previous generation and other vehicles.

Yes true lapping performance over a good course will be interesting!

Mine will be at the port in about 1-2 weeks. Brooklyn gray, 6spd, carbon buckets ?

my brother works at bmw so I was able to get my hands on their first customizable one. (He gave IND the baby blue one)

keeping the Supra as well for now. We’ll see which one I end up driving more. I’ve owned my Supra almost 2 years and only have 2900 miles on it ?
My Supra just sits too - 1600 miles and I bought it new in April of '21.

I think the M2 will be a good balance of GT car and fun coupe - you will enjoy it and I bet drive it more than the Supra.

Regular people driving these cars IMHO
This more accurately represents real world performance
Rather than a semi pro and or pro driver doing multi launches to try and squeeze out magazine numbers
