I'm in the market of buying a new car since I totaled my '17 370z two weeks ago after owning it for 4 years. Bought it new I decided not to purchase a new since new Z is coming out this year, if not early next year. I have been checking out the 3.0 Supra's. After finding out that the newer models have their ecu locked, it is a huge let down for me as I have always tuned my cars. This must be one of the reasons why I keep seeing a lot of used Supra's on sale. Now with the new Z coming around the corner I can't wait to see how these two cars will do performance wise. Nissan will be taking orders starting in November. I'm sure there will be a lot of you guys jumping into the Z wagon.
The new Z will also be locked so don’t let that be the deciding factor. If you buy now you can enjoy the Supra for the rest of this year. If you look really hard I bet you can find an unlockable one still out there.

If it must be a manual transmission then for sure wait for the Z.

Taking orders Nov, probably get the vehicles by April+. ~ 1 year from now, probably with mark-up. Best case let's say January. You're in FL, so maybe you can drive before spring..
How important is time?
What is it that you desire? Latest in the market?
Chances are as a true Nissan, aftermarket support probably will be greater.
Has MT if you fancy that.
No one really knows the driving dynamics, but probably not far from 350/70z.
The video game listed the sports car as packing 444 horsepower and a curb weight of 3,252 pounds. Faster, lighter. If they haven't screwed up the 6-7 speed trans, should have similar 0-60.
Supposed to be ~40K range..

I got to see the new Z in person when they brought it to our local cars and coffee right down the street from the Nissan Corporate building. Definitely a very cool car, and obviously the manual trans is a big selling point...plus the fact that it doesn't have the stupid iDrive system. For me, I actually didn't like the Supra on paper, and was very reluctant to even go look at one. All it took was a test drive and tried to buy it right then and there after going to simply aid my buying research, ended up getting it two days later at another dealer. For all the nay sayers I always say "drive it." Go test drive one and at least you'll know if you should wait for the Z.

I don't believe the video game weight of the new Z. The new Z is slightly longer, the new motor is heavier and it will come with updated tech on the same platform. Base 370Z was north of 3320 lbs. I expect it to hover closely to the 3.0 Supra in weight and get heavier fully loaded.

You can tune the 21's if the build date is prior to 06/20. I looked for an early build date Supra to tune it, but after driving the car I'm not going to bother. The thing is plenty quick, and more than what the average person can handle. I had a 2009 370z prior to my Supra, and it's a totally different animal. Mine was a manual. I just think the 400z is lacking in the looks department. You wouldn't believe the amount of people that stop, and stare when you drive by with the Supra.

The new Z is ugly. It truly is. IF you care about looks don't buy it. Supra's are nice looking cars, especially when you lower them and do some minor cosmetic stuff. If looks doesn't matter to you then wait for the Z and pray ecu is unlocked.

It’s almost like saying you like both dogs and cats, but I’m a fan of both the Supra and the long history of Zs. I like the Z enough that I’ve owned several in the past, including two 370s. Unlike many, I thought the 370Z was a nice looking car.

I was stunned by how unambitious the 400Z looks. The performance figures are more important, but wow is it uninspired looking.

It sounds like it will be fun to drive and you can save some money over the Supra, so maybe worth the wait. But I sure am glad to be in the Supra.

Always going to be a new model with new bells and whistles, more power, better this, better that. Plus the supra is available now compared to the Z which has expected dates but look how horrible shortages are delaying things. Are you willing to wait 2 years for one? Or drive a supra now?

If your a Z guy and liked the 370z platform and want a manual i would wait (assume Spring delivery next year at the earliest though).

My opinion. I don’t believe the 3200lbs weight rumor. I think its going to be neck and neck with the Supra.

I also think options will add up fast. Want technology and things like heated seats, blindspot monitoring, etc? Want better wheels, brakes, aero, etc? Gonna cost. I think it will be close to the Supra. With inflation and supply issues I think the price will end up being higher than the rumors for a decently optioned one.

I think the interior is big improvement and I like the rear half of the car, but the front end is terrible.
