I'd like to see a rematch of the 3.0 Supra 6MT vs the Z 6MT and the 3.0 Supra ZF8 vs the automatic Z in a few months. Both drag and track times.

Also, if they're gonna be doing a true head-to-head, they should opt for the top spec on all the cars regardless of price point - best tire combo, best brakes, suspension setups, etc.

In the video, it's a 3.0 premium vs the proto spec... they're both top specs of their model lines... the Z has no excuse. ?? how can that car struggle with traction, but can't do a burnout..? ?

holy cow was that Supra moving.

Z is in trouble. No way would I pay $52K for a top of the line spec and lose to the competition that easily.

a moment of silence to the guys who put $ down on a Z lol.

don’t give me the manual excuse, Supra is coming with one and it’ll probably be better l/faster.

It's basically the Supra saying "bro, i wasn't even trying yet..."
But is that profile from BMW or Toyota? I've been going back and forth between the two and my butt dyno can't tell the difference yet, but I haven't come to a conclusion yet, they feel the same to me, but I'm also traffic limited often

Did you activate Sport+ properly...? Also, are you driving it VSC off..? The difference is apparent when all conditions are met. The transmission shifting becomes more crisp and the throttle response becomes more reactive and sensitive.

I'm not sure what properly is or isn't, I coded w/ bimmercode, and I've tried driving in the cars "Plus" mode and setting trans and engine to sport plus in Individual. I daily the car so I don't drive with VSC off, do you mean ALL the way off with a hold or traction mode? To me the trans shifts crisp as long as I'm on at least 40-60% throttle, throttle sensitivity seems fine

Ouch....Z boys gunna milk that tire excuse that was pretty much made up to save face. The Z's manual is really handicapped gear ratio wise....geez...I thought Nissan discounting the Z would give it some cred...but It's pretty much Supra money....and then you add the Markups....I'll say it again...OUCH.

Is it just me then that thinks that’s way closer than people were saying it would be? Stock vs stock considering the weight difference it’s done a decent job of being *almost* right with them.

That supra has been through multiple software updates to get the traction and transmission dialled in.
The Nissan’s tyres weren’t warmed for the launch like the other two cars either and tyres I think can be a valid excuse.

For the record I’m not fussed on the 400z at all. I’m in the supra camp wholeheartedly.
I also agree that on track/autocross the difference will be far more noticeable. BUT on the quarter mile the difference isn’t as big as people were making out. It looks close.

Excellent video though. Loved the slow-mo editing

Yeah, it was closer than I expected; I expected 0.4s slower, vs. 0.2s slower in this test. I guess the Z makes close to rated power after all.

transmission dialled in.
Results with the 2020 Supra would've been the same. For example, Motor Trend had a faster 0-60 with their 2020 than their 2021: https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2021-toyota-gr-supra-3-0-first-test-review/.

Huh? Why do you say that?

This video seemed fair until the very end where it claims the Supra's awesome stock Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are what set it apart from the Z. That's bullshit, of course, as everyone who's upgraded to 4S's or beyond will agree.

I don't really drag race mine, but frm what I've read I'm curious if the Supra would have been even faster using the launch method people here talk about.

Yeah that’s fair I know the tyres on the supra suck too. Warm tyres do make a difference on initial launch vs cold tyres though right?

I’m not saying it was unfair or anything, I think it was well done but I will be looking forward to seeing a few more of these kinds of videos, especially from a rolling start too which at least for the “streets of Mexico” run ins, will give more of a real life scenario of what these cars will be like. But side by side on the street it doesn’t look as “gapplebees” as some people said it would.
