I would love to know what happened behind the scenes between Lexus and Toyota for them to not share ANY tech or chassis on this car. The MKV Supra would have looked a hell of a lot better if it was built on the LC chassis instead of the Z4. I get that the FT-1 was made 10% bigger for stage presence, but they would have made the FT-1 proportions a lot closer with the LC chassis. Wouldn't have been cheaper in the long run anyways? Also, the LC500 is more rigid than the LFA as well, so that wouldn't have been a problem either

The criticisms are understandable.
But what I don't understand is how hard all the car enthusiasts are trying to generalize that MKV Supra is bad not because the actual car is bad, but simply because it's a collaboration between Toyota and BMW.

The argument that went on on this thread has been covered in like other 10 threads in the general topics section, so I am a bit surprised that this thread got dragged out this far again.
:spam:
I guess we will be beating this dead horse until the car is released and people starts to get their hands on one.
Until then, I think all arguments are sort of pointless at this point.
Thatā€™s exactly what i have been trying to get across to alot of folks. They hate the car simply because itā€™s not a 100% Toyota car. Well, what about the guys who swap Nissan transmissions, Tremec transmissions, Ford rear ends, etc... in in their MKIVā€™s? Why donā€™t people whine or bitch about that making the car not 100% Toyota?? People would still bitch if it came with a 3JZ, because thatā€™s whatā€™s wrong with the internet today, we have people with no income putting in their two cents on everything. The MKV Supra will be a beast in the aftermarket.

3JZ is impossible as too many components would need to be changed on the 2JZ to meet regulations

Lexus currently has no engine as capable as the B58. No current Lexus six cylinder engine is capable of high boost, not even the LS500ā€™s motor. All open deck blocks. Thatā€™s why.

I agree, a LC500 chassis would have been interesting to see with FT-1 styling, but a B58 in a LC chassis would be stupid expensive.

A70 has told us in the past that this did not happened due to weight and cost. Lexus already has a hard time selling a $100k LC, imagine how much lower sales would be for a Toyota counterpart.

You think so? I would assume they would be able to keep the cost of the car at a reasonable level sharing the LC chassis, but the motor would have been interesting. I thought Lexus had a V6TT with north of 600hp in the pipeline. A de-tuned version of that would have been fine for me :)

I figured Toyota wanted to use the I6 as opposed to a V6, so it would be more like it used to be with the 2JZ.

Sorry for awkward wording, been awake too long and can't word good

I really think that this B58 is going to be the new...well....2JZ, in all honesty. With the technology we have now, compared to what, 25 years ago? I think that with the same mods, it will make more power. But we'll have to see. We won't know for another year or so, though

Yeah, too late now. Oh well, it is what it is.

Itā€™s possible for the B58 to be a great engine but as you mentioned, weā€™ll see. It really depends on how much aftermarket support, how easy itā€™ll be work on and the cost of OEM Toyota parts.

Have you guys driven an LC? Lovely cars, but a Supra they are not. I for one would not have been okay with a 4200lb Supra, I'm barely okay with a 3400lb Supra, and that's only because I know there are versions of the car that weigh 300lbs less. Also, I've had the pleasure of getting up close with a bare chassis of an LC500. Awesome tech, but man oh man, nothing is designed to be easy to service or replace. I remember when I saw where the rear strut tops were I was dumbfounded.

I understand that it would have been ideal to use an existing Toyota family platform, but if you look into the LC and RC, they're not it. Also, don't think that Toyota didn't consider the same thing initially either, they most certainly did.

Oh btw, here's a little extra tidbit, the guys at Lexus tried hard for a while to try and poach the new Supra chassis for Lexus because they liked it so much. Didn't happen though, Akio wanted a Supra. Maybe you guys would have gotten your nice interior if it was a Lexus, but then maybe it would have been a convertible, and maybe it would weigh 3700lbs lol. :p

What do you mean it can't be a great engine?

There's plenty of people who "whine and bitch" about anything other than the V160 or A340 in the MKIV, including myself. Hell, as good of a transmission it is, I still don't even like the fact that the Getrag is German.
