Those aren’t the same as the Castrol Euro C5/BMW LL17FE+ oil.

Thats like saying all 0w20 oil are the same because it has the same viscosity index.

Obviously nothing will happen to the engine as long as you put some kind of engine oil in your engine but this topic is referencing factory approved oil.
This oil does meet the factory specs…

I am not, that is LL17FE+ oil that everyone is losing their minds over in this thread.
Suggested retail pricing of that oil isn’t $50. Clearly the vendor is gouging due to the limited availability of this specific oil. I wouldn’t say this oil is widely available by that definition.

Reminder this isn’t a debate of what oil we should use. Just clearing some confusion on what is factory approved oil, BMW LL17FE or ACEA C5 and where those can be purchased off the shelf.

The price is irrelative to what we where discussing. Stop moving the goal post. You can buy it on Amazon. You said it wasn't the right oil. It is. It's LL17FE. No need to wait until some rando Toyota dealer gets oil in stock. Or just go to any BMW dealer and get the same oil in BMW branding.

Keep debating it though. It's fun that you are, while at the same time stating this isn't a debate. lmao.

This is too funny. Before the statement was that you can't find it. Now that that was proven wrong, it's too much money.

Move those goal posts. I guess this is what I get for engaging in the 100,000 F'in thread about oil.

Some people sure are passionate about oil.

Canadian 2023 Manual "allows" BMW LL17 which are all 0w20.

North American 2021 M340i with the 382hp B58 allows LL01, LL14, LL17, which covers 5w30 and 40 as well. Another section specifically also says 0w30 as well. Europe also allows LL04 (0w30). What does this say? As long as it's good full synthetic anywhere from 0w20 to 5w40 you'll be fine.

Good synthetic oil, meets certification, cheap: Pick two.

My go to have been LL17 0w20 Liquimoly for winter and having a record of using correct (to Toyota Manual) oil, and Liquimoly 4210 0w30 LL04 (very good oil) for summer cuz I do occasional track driving. If I track more I'd go to 5w40. Low SAPS, high HTHS and flash point are the most important things to look for for something like our engines.

i think you're confusing the various 0w20 SKUs. the product sheet link doesn't even link to the correct 0w20 SKU.

LL IV isn't the same as normal edge 0w20. the only thing that matters is what sticker shows on the bottle, and the one you posted doesn't say anything about C5. the one in the bottle is the mainstream castrol edge 0w20 SP that you can find any local retail store.

i think we've already settled that you can put almost any type of off the shelf oil and nothing is going to happen to your engine. oil viscosity at room temperature is more viscous than oil at operating temperature. don't see any engines blowing up because of that.

BMWLL17FE+/C5 oils are only if you want to go by the book. it's unlikely toyota will even question the type of oil you used or ask you to provide documentation during an engine warranty.
