It's January 2025 and my dealer is still claiming the oil is on National Backorder (for months at least) with no substitutions available. Yet I can find Mobil One and Valvoline 0w-20 (European) blends at two local stores and online. The service techs seem convinced they can't use anything but the GR labeled oil, and it's become deeply frustrating trying to get them to honor the most simple aspect of the "Toyota Care" package: the oil change. It's an easy job, and I'll do it myself at the end of the month, but I really wanted them to keep their word after all the extras I was charged for at point of sale.
I was told it was on back order in June but they ended up getting some by August. Your dealer must just be getting their stock from somewhere else. If they’re doing everything by the books then they’ll refuse to use any other oil unless you know the tech. I’d try a different dealer since it’s unlikely you’ll get them to use anything else

The owner manual says any oil that meets C5 or LL17FE+ will be in compliance with the warranty.

I'm pretty sure that Mobil 1 and Valvoline oils do not comply. Liqui Moly is one other company that does have oil that complies.

Liquimoly 0w-20 is available from Amazon. Do some searching there as there are several options. Plus, it's delivered to your door.

Correct, not too many off the shelf options. BMW branded oil would be another option. Castrol makes one but it tends to be out of stock and only sold online.

Castro Edge full synthetic is always available at WalMart, Advance, and AutoZone. Probably all the other usual chains as well. It is NOT difficult to find oil for this car. This special “Supra Oil” is the dumbest shit ever.

Those aren’t the same as the Castrol Euro C5/BMW LL17FE+ oil.

Thats like saying all 0w20 oil are the same because it has the same viscosity index.

Obviously nothing will happen to the engine as long as you put some kind of engine oil in your engine but this topic is referencing factory approved oil.

GR Supra oil is overrated, I’ve never used it in the last 4 years and Blackstone oil reports say engine is fine.

If there is an engine warranty issue, I think it's best to have oil that meets the certifications listed in the owner's manual.

How is oil such a mind boggler to people on here? Do we REALLY need another oil thread talking about oil?

I do find it funny that @concept can't stay away from a oil thread. It's like the mere sound of a new oil thread being created summons him from across the boomer plains.

FYI, you can get LL17FE+ oil that isn't Liquimoly on Amazon all day long. Walmart also stocks it, even if some dude in this thread states they don't.

that Castrol one in particular goes in and out of stock pretty quickly at Walmart. I’ve purchased a few before from Walmart.

this isn’t an oil debate. It’s simply someone wanting to follow their owners manual.

there aren’t that many options for oil with the bmw LL17FE+ certification. Off the top of my head, it’s liquimoly, bmw branded oil, and that specific Castrol euro. There may be some other boutique brands that carry it but most people aren’t interested in paying $100 for that.
