BTW, I'm taking the BAV stuff to my regular audio guy and he is going to look it over and decide if it is worthwhile - he has been doing this a long time and had seen it all and is always of the opinion that better amp and tuning trumps anything speaker related. Might pick and choose from the kit, but he has used upgraded amps matched perfectly to these type systems and come out with much better sound. (I'm thinking we may just change out subs and do a better amp that covers all frequencies.)
That can definitely help depending on whether or not the DSP is configurable and/or allows the same EQ filtering at the head unit. On the other hand, there's not a lot you can push on the low end from a 4" mid. That's really the Achilles heel of this system IMO and likely helped significantly by an improved driver with better motor assembly and stiffer cone. On the other hand, the tweeter is the opposite, being metal it's unlikely to reach down much at all, and is probably best defined more as a "super-tweeter".

It's too bad that rather than replicating the same 1"T+4"M configuration in the B-pillar area - they didn't just stick 6" midwoofers there and make it a full 4-way system. That would likely be almost perfect in dispersion and tone.

Has anyone installed the BAVsound system yet? Any install pictures/guides? Received mine last week but currently the only thing I can find is the TJ hunt video which isn't really an install guide. Thanks.

I was curious as to if Bavsound was going to provide detailed instructions....If that buffoonery video posted by Hunt is supposed to be their instructions it's pathetic and poorly done...

That was honestly a terrible review. It left me less willing to buy the product.

Anyone following this audio upgrade option by OEM Audio Plus? It's still under development...

I like that this system will also offer multi channel amp and dsp...My understanding is that with this kit our current "subs" would be used as woofers (using cutoff filter) and that an additional sub is added to the system...

OEM Audio Plus for Supra

FEATURES:

ā€¢ Designed and tuned specifically for the Supra A90

ā€¢ Supra-Specific Subwoofer System

ā€¢ Multi-Channel Power Amplifier

ā€¢ Pre-Calibrated Digital Signal Processor (64-Bit)

ā€¢ Plug and Play Installation

If I had to guess, they are waiting on Audison for an amp option like Bavsound.

This seems promising actually looks better than the bavsound option. Might just wait for this.

OE Rear Woofers

Questions to remove the sub enclosures:

1) To access (#12) it looks like the center console will need to be removed. Is the center console clipped in? Or are there screws there to look for in that area too?

2) To access (#10) it looks like we will need to remove the door sill trim. Did anyone have any issues with this area?

3) To access (#6) will the plastic trim above this need to be removed too? Does it simple pry out or are there screws located in this trim piece?

Thanks!

To get to #12 the center console (parts) are removed. Take out the plastic piece that sits in the bottom of the cup holders. There are 2 #20 torx screws there. The cup holder then pulls off. After that the little cubby over that pulls straight up. There are 2 small holes under that little plastic thing deep in the cubby but mine didnā€™t have screws. From there you should be able to see those nuts to remove.

To access #10 you do have to pull the door sill. Itā€™s 4 clips so just pull up. No problems. From there, to remove that trim piece there is a 10mm plastic nut.

To get to #6, you have to first remove the piece that wraps around near the ceiling towards the hatch. All clips no screws. Then you have to remove the piece that the seatbelt goes through. Again, no screws just panel clips. However this piece is fragile so be carefully. That will expose those screws (#6). To remove that piece though you do have to remove the aluminum strut bar. This is a #50 torx.

I found this pic posted with rear woofers and enclosures removed...wondering if the woofer enclosures have ports on the bottom of their enclosures? See chassis cutouts shown below...

Interesting find. If they are ported, you can definitely play with the port to tune it to different frequency responses. I'll try to post up what I find when I get them removed. My plan was to stuff them with polyfill and to dynamat the subbox and other areas.

Here is a closeup...I just verified visually by removing narrow rear panel that our subs are indeed ported directly below their woofer enclosures...With heavy bass played it's amazing the amount of air pushed out through the 3 elliptical slots shown on attached pic....Also of interest is that it appears that the exit ports (shown in blue arrows) are literally blocked by the narrow rear panel...

The woofer enclosures themselves appear to be isolated from the chassis with a gasket running around the bottom of each box and secured to the chassis by mounting on top of rubber standoffs....

I suspect much of the low bass vibrations are coming from the narrow chassis cavity which runs under the woofer enclosures...

Did you play any music with the back cover off? How did it affect the sound quality? That cover has insulation padding right over those ports so I wondered what type of difference it made with it on vs off? I doubt the holes are used to tune the subs frequencies, that's more of the port design for that (width and length). I would imagine that they put the cutouts to decrease the bass resonating off the metal. If the air was completely released it would definitely cut down on the rattle and muddy muffle sound.
