I’m storing my Supra for the winter and have opted for the CTEK 5.0 with an optional extended cable for ease of hook up.

Thoughts, what are you using and/or preference?

Has anyone attached the eye-hooks up to the battery in the trunk? How did you remove the negative terminal bolt to attach the eye hook. The threaded bolt is un-removable. C Clamped in place unlike the positive terminal that unbolts as normal. I wanted them to be more permanent for I store the car each winter. This way it’s a plug and play connection. Tia

I know trickle charger placement is a bit of a debate with the Supra but I would attach it to a bolt underneath there rather than the negative terminal.

~ Which bolt are you referencing? Thanks

You should never hook a charger directly up to the battery in this car. Use the charging/jump posts under the hood.

I was going to hook mine to the battery as I felt under the trunk was a clean way to do it. Plus it kept the connector away from the heat of the engine bay. Thinking since the CTEK 5.0 had the option for AGM it would be fine but I was in no way sure of that. What really made me decide to ultimately go under the hood was that I didn’t want the cable to be sandwiched between something and the weather stripping while it was connected causing a small gap to form in the seal. (I’m anal about things like that.) So I used the positive post under the hood and a nearby bolt. Didn’t use the post on the fender since the CTEK whip wouldn’t reach and, again, weather stripping. Mine comes out the front of the car with the hood latched but not completely closed. Not taking credit for this setup as I saw it in another thread about charger placement. Works perfect for me. Just another option or idea as you determine what works best for you.

I hope you remember to unplug it before you drive off, lest you incur some damage to the car or the charger or both. Having the hood partially open gives you an alert when you start the car.

Lol. I drug the trickle charger on our boat all the way to the lake on the first trip last year. It never hit the ground just flopped around a lot I’m sure. Still works. Quality stuff!
