How about small round felt pads in place of the silicone? Easier application with similar results.

I know with the silicone, you have to buy a whole tube and a tool to push it out, just for a tiny bit of silicone for this project.

This was a great suggestion, thanks! Finally got my car back from service today, and the sub grille rattle was pretty prevalent on the way home. I remembered your post, grabbed the felt dots I had from the kit I bought for our furniture feet, and pulled the grilles out.

I split the grille pieces in two, added a bunch of the (worryingly thick) felt pads, and snapped them back together. They went back in just fine, and the rattle is definitely gone. Just need to pull the 3rd brake light trim to fix that, and I think I’m rattle free!

…for now

All good man. That’s about how mine turned out. Happy with the results.

Quick pulse check befire I spend time learning thingiverse. I created a couple of 3d modeled custom vents. First was this one:

20210629_172422.webp

It's just a quick print in PLA with the Supra logo painted to see if the concept was feasible. I ran a bunch of test prints in nylon as well, but it needs someone who has a better handle on stringing issues with Nylon, or with the patience to post process by hand.

While working on it someone pointed out that the Weathertech liner blocks two inch ports, so I went another route:

20210627_204421.jpg

This was made by tracing the outline of a pic of a hood vent. It can be installed above the liner like this:

It seems to work very well.

So the question is, given that I'm an amateur when it comes to 3d modeling and printing, is there any interest in me figuring out how to use thingiverse to share the stl files? Are there even Supra owners with 3d printers that would bother?

Thanks for any feedback.

I like the first one minus the "supra" added (less is more)

The 2nd option just looks odd to me...Just use the circular ports and cut around the weather tech mat lip as many others have done which still looks very good...

Fair enough! Thank you for taking the time to reply and for creating the awesome guide for this mod.

For those who want to just print a simple port instead of buying, there are many options out on thingiverse.

I bought all the padding and stuff from local Michaels for under $20 with coupons, now all I need is a port. I saw yours have grills, did you just drill the hole and screwed in that cover? (yours looks like this one > https://www.amazon.com/ASHATA-Speaker-Decorative-Resistant-Protective/dp/B07QYM8VB3/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=2"+speaker+grill&qid=1625159495&sr=8-10&th=1 ) , or is there also a port tube behind it?

The grills came with 4 little screws each and I used those. I drilled really small pilot holes first and they screwed right in. No port behind. You either do the grills or the port. Not both.

Just completed mine. I went to my local Michaels store and purchased the following:

x1 > https://www.michaels.com/simple-foam-cushion-by-loops-and-threads/10353015.html
x2 > https://www.michaels.com/classic-black-fiber-fill-by-loops-and-threads-8oz/10600735.html

With my 25% coupon and after taxes came under $20.

I went with two 8oz black Poly Fiber (didn't even know it was available in black until I saw it at the store, i had already did a store pick up for the 12oz white one and canceled that order in the store for the black one). It was easy to stuff it inside the hole. Next the foam cushion was not easy to cut compared to the firmer foam pads most people have on here, but I made it work.

I had originally stuffed both 8oz bags of poly fiber into each side (16oz total). I honestly don't see how people can stuff more than that! Anyway the results with that much in it, muted the woofer just a tad bit much for my liking, so i removed about 2oz on each side (so now there's a total of 12oz) and MUCH better results! I am extremely happy. The nasty "boomy" sound is gone and woofers have faster tight response at lower frequencies.

I "plastidiped" the exposed metal part black for a stealth look. I originally had the mesh tweeter cover on order, but since I found the black poly filler, i'm going ahead and just order the port instead (give it that Subwoofer look).

EDIT: I received my ports, I had requested a return\refund to Amazon for the tweeter grills since I was not going to use them, and to my surprise they issued me a refund while stating I can keep the grills. So with that, i decided to hot glue the mesh to the other end of the port. The end visual results looks OEM!

Capitalism at it's finest...

I was wondering how long it take for someone to capitalize on this cheap mod...

Good for them...ha!

There will always be customers who will pay for someone else’s time rather than do simple work themselves. Their money at the end of the day. They should have at least given credit where it’s due (to you).

How much did your Dynamat help with road noise? Is the cabin a lot quieter now?

Sup guys, can anyone tell me how much clearance there is for the speaker port tubes behind the panel? I'm looking to purchase this on Amazon since it already comes with the grill but not sure if the 2" length will clear. The tubes OP posted are 1" in length.
