Based on this, it sounds like he should be able to order a new key from BimmerTech by just providing his VIN?
No it needs to be programmed into the ecu as well. New keys won’t help unless the new keys have the EXACT same rolling codes.

I'm surprised a Nigerian Prince didn't lose his keys to the Supra, and will pay you part of his fortune to unlock it by providing your bank account.

I'm assuming you have "Lock Doctor" type places where you live. They are probably more knowledgeable than the dealers are. I've watched these guys show how easy it is to steal cars even with all the modern protections. If anyone can find you an alternative solution, they probably can.

All jokes aside, you'll need two new door keys, fobs, and a Body Domain Controller. It comes as a kit, but must be special ordered directly from BMW (through your local Toyota dealer), and only a licensed dealer can do it. Parts & Labor will easily be over $1,000.

Thanks, this sounds about right - They simply told him that the entire ECU needs to be changed which he has been quoted an arm and a leg for, and it made absolute no sense to do so.

His kids have misplaced both the keys which were together, so that's the sturggle.

After reading this thread it sounds to me that the solution to losing both your keys is going to Toyota dealership and bending over ??

Hello,

Hopefully this will help someone. I didn’t have keys to my car due to accident/purchasing it wrecked at a salvage auction. I was able to order a key specifically per vin number. Three months later it arrived. Apparently theirs about 5 keys that fits these cars. They’re pre-programmed. I was told I needed a Body Domain Controller. That turned out to be false. The tech couldn’t get the car to communicate to his computer. Swapped the original controller. Hit the start button 3 times to access diagnostic mode. Held the key up to the steering column area. Car started.

So I have a new $500 Body Domain Controller for no reason. Happy to sell to whoever needs it.

Be blessed!
