All of these people here are being tongue-in-cheek, but really though (and I genuinely believe everyone here would have the same outlook as well), drive both of them, and test them out in scenarios that you will find yourself in often.

While you're driving, see which one speaks to you more. If it's the Z, then great! If it's the GR Supra, that's also great! See which car feels better in your hands because either way you're going to be piloting some amazing contemporary sports cars from two Japanese manufacturers that had to compromise. Nissan needed to use a 20 year old platform, and Toyota partnered up with BMW.

You can also try weighing the pros and cons of both cars in terms of performance, handling, interior and exterior design as well as other things that one would evaluate a car on, but also see if both cars have any compromises that may be a dealbreaker or the other car could rectify. If you feel that the said compromises are a big deal (or not), it will be easier to help you decide which cars you like.

Happy car shopping. :)

+100000000000000 on the compromise issues. Sports cars are loaded with those!

Thereā€™s so much twisting and turning taking place that youā€™d think this is gymnasticsšŸ˜„

Our friends are just going through the Five Stages of Grief, so letā€™s be a good friend about it and help them out.

First, they were on their high horses by running their mouths saying that this car would completely make the Supra obsolete. That German POS will be completely obliterated in every aspect, they say.

So naturally, they were completely in denial when the first drag race video was posted on YouTube. This was complete theatrics they say. They questioned how the video was made.

That denial became anger when they then searched for excuses and complained about the tires on the Z. If only they had equal tires, they say. Why didnā€™t Nissan put better tires on the Z, they said. Some were so delusional that they blamed the auto ā€œjournalistā€ at hand, angerly asking for better tires in anyway that they can.

People were bargaining when saw the first dyno numbers coming in. They started searching for excuses and talking about the hypothetical Nismo version that would finally beat the Supra. Donā€™t worry, donā€™t worry, donā€™t panic,. The Nismo will gap the Supra, they say (even though that version is obviously not out yet and nobody knows anything about it to start with).

But as time went on, less and less people were running their mouths. You still had some cultist that were in the other stages of grief and still thumping their chest, but it was noticeably fewer folks now. No longer as confident as they once were, depression was setting in.

Then as this comparison came out and the comments, it was clear that acceptance has set in for them. They now know that the Z wasnā€™t going to beat the Supra. It wasnā€™t going to be anything that they thought it would have over the Supra. And that value proposition that they held on for? It wasnā€™t quite as good as they had hoped for either (although itā€™s still cheaper than the Supra). Some only have their last card to play, and that was to proclaim that The Z still looks better to me. Or Iā€™ll take the Z even if itā€™s slower.

it will take some in the cult more time, but eventually, everyone will enter the acceptance stage. I donā€™t think we should agitate them or trash them any further because this is a grieving process for them. There there, everything will be ok.

And for the record, I like the new Z. Just not as much as the Supra. In fact, Iā€™d get the Z if I couldnā€™t get a Supra, so I donā€™t have a problem with the car at all. The fanboys however.. thats:lol:

Welcome! Completely agree with taking both for a spin if you are able to. Something to keep in mind is you will be spending the majority of your time with the car inside it. Really pay attention to which interior looks/feels better to you. Which gauge cluster looks nicer, which steering wheel feels nicer (probably the Z), which materials feel nicer (probably the Supra), which seats are more comfortable. Thatā€™s what made me go with the Supra. I still hate the front end but Iā€™m not looking at it when Iā€™m driving it.

Sport Z + aftermarket LSD + aftermarket wheels and tires = same price as the performance and Supra 3.0, so whatā€™s the point?
Z: $39,900
aftermarket LSD: $2,000-$2,500 installed
better tired: $? depends on which ones you go w/

still a better buy than the 2.0 imo especially since a lot of them are loaded = $47k...

If you're wanting something right out of the box that checks most of the boxes then I would say 3.0 Supra > Z. However, if you're on a budget or if you're looking to do a ton of mods anyway I would say the base Z is a good starting point. Either way, best of luck on your car hunt OP.

Itā€™s funny how the PSS is suddenly ā€œarguably the best street tireā€ when people here (and many other forums) have been shitting on it for years. I suspect some people are confused and think the Supra comes with PS4S.

PSS is an old tire at this point.

One advantage we do have is that it is a star spec tire, with different construction to an off the rack PSS, but it doesnā€™t keep most Supra owners from changing the tires out as soon as they can.

Genuine question. If one of these Z's pulls up to my lil two-point-oh supra at a stop light, who's gonna win?

I get it it's not as good as the straight six but surely the 400 HP chest thumper has an advantage somewhere?

Seems like that quote is optimistic. The car will cost closer to $45k out the door. LSD cost will probably be closer to $5k due to demand. You may need new wheels to go with the tires, so decent quality ones will probably be close to $4k for a set of wheels and tires, even more depending on wheel quality. Even after that, you're left with a car that still could use bigger brakes and is nose-heavy.
