Which do you like better? The manual or the auto. We’ve had manuals all our life. Love them. But this ZF trans is so smooth. The rapid fire gear shifting up & down is a blast 🚀

I personally enjoy the MT more. The AT was faster but also didn't handle as well. The back end was so easy to break loose. I feel more confident in the MT were the AT was a bit unpredictable.

OP doesn't seem like you're going to get a clear answer. People who own non 2023 are answering lol.
I should have thought about that. At least in the poll the manuals are still winning. Maybe more manuals are being sold. Well that might be wishful thinking.

Your coworker is right though, at most it’s only 25% manuals produced for 2023.
Yeah you’re probably right. Although they didn’t give a number I think they were guessing less than 10%. But I was probably wrong thinking more than 50%.

Maybe.

The thing is, if the car was released in manual form from the getgo, I'd wager that the automatic drivers of the Supra would be a minority.. at least on this forum.

Maybe they would've been relegated to a straight line drag section lol.

It's the strangest community here. It's the only car forum I have ever seen where driving a manual is seen as a negative by the majority of the community. It doesn't make them any less wrong, but it is an interesting dynamic. 😂

I wouldn’t say it’s seen as negative. It’s just that the manual is quite literally, objectively and technically inferior to the zf8. Source: manual owner.

So, I get what you mean, but that would be a MY difference, not AT vs MT..

Both, started with an auto. I was worried at first because BMW manuals are rubbery but to my surprise, it's fantastic.
It's like you're set up for an arranged marriage and you know the bride's family is all ugly but all of a sudden she's a beauty. The MT is fantastic.

You may be right but I think the different size rear end makes a difference.

So while shopping yesterday for the Mrs. (attempt to get her mind off the manual M2), doing the toyota website zip code search, manuals were a mega rarity. There was only 3 manuals on the East coast. Two of them said sale pending. All 3 were the “limited edition” manuals. No manual non premium or premium currently on my coast. I found a single auto 3.0 non premium which is incredibly attractive for $54k and thus even rarer find. Would love to snag that for her!

As a track enthusiast it’s hard to deny what these new ”autos” can do. Back when Ferrari 1st introduced an “auto” car to the public, we were all appalled. They were clunky, jerky shifts - I drove a 430 and can vouch, it was awful in traffic. Additionally, any other brand automatic was slower and had lower mpg. So the manuals were still a clear enthusiast choice for decades.

Fast forward to today. It‘s shocking how far they’ve come along. In this ZF‘s case - buttery smooth shifts, lightning fast and never upsets the car on track. Even a die hard manual owner like myself made the switch. Except for my wife who’s still in the manual camp and could care less of my buttery smooth definition 🧈 😞. She tracks for fun and I‘m chasing my last fastest lap. So I get it. We’re in two different camps and it’s a personal choice.

Honestly, if I didn’t have my manual MX5, was only buying one car for in town fun, I’d buy the manual Supra. Add being harder to find & wanting to support the survival of ICE manual rides = makes me want it more. Bravo Toyota for giving us both 👏🏼

What are you talking about different size rear?
My understanding is Toyota has a different size rear diff to match up to the different gear ratios. This could be all in my head but I feel more confident accelerating. The AT was very snappy.
