Just did the last round of changes prior to my 1st track weekend with the car coming up next weekend.

Put the Ti lug bolts on the car earlier in the week. Looks nice with the wheels, happy with this for now. I'll get to the studs eventually. Will not be running these at the track.

Had this interior carbon fiber sticker thing for the vent laying around for awhile I finally installed. Not really into modding the interior but this bmw interior is pretty bland. Looks nice and oem. Only other mod I'll do with the interior is a different steering wheel at some point, stock one is too skinny for my hands.

Bought a tow hook because it looks nice. Need to get one for the rear as well for track events.

Out with the stock dust pads, new dusters going in. Pretty annoying that they're glued in there. I was able to get them free by using the hooked needle nose pliers under the metal tabs and prying upwards. Didn't take too much force to get them to break free. Really nice having 4 pot brembos again. Pad swaps are so easy when you don't have to pull the caliper. If anyone wants the stock pads let me know, 530 miles with 0 hard braking events.

Changed the oil with some motul 5w-40. Will probably do a couple of track weekends with it then change it again and send the oil for analysis to see how long I can go.

Went out to my favorite spot for data logging, bedding pads, or just driving a car hard. Bed in the pads and pushed the car a bit for the first time, even launched it a few times. Very different experience from my s4, fun car even at stock power. New pads feel great once they're up to temp, bit squishy when cold. After bedding in the pads the wheels are completely coated in dust and so is the side of the car. Stuff is no joke. Been a long time since I was running track pads, forgot how bad the dust is. I'll be swapping to hawk hps 5.0 pads between track events. These wheels had just been cleaned a few hours prior to this pic.

.

Ready to have fun at the track. Next round of mods will be a Wagner IM which is on its way and a DME unlock and tune.

I remember when the front of my Supra looked nice and not annihilated. Now it has many track memories of being 2" off peoples rears at 120mph+. Enjoy it being pristine while it lasts, lol.

Yeah, it is what it is. Hopefully the ppf holds up for awhile. Right now its a shiny new thing and I like keeping my cars clean and in great condition as much as possible.

I've used Track Tape on my cars when I have had to take a road trip. I wrapped up my Sienna and it looked like a mummy but from IL to Niagra Falls Canada I had no rock chips at all.

Yea... I'm way too far gone for that lol. To be honest, I bought the car to track with so I view it all as badges of honor now. ;)

Had my first track weekend at MSR Houston last weekend. Been holding off on this post since I was waiting for a set of professional photos that were taken on track to be delivered. Still don't have them, oh well.

Weekend was awesome, most fun I've had since I was last doing this 13 years ago. Met lots of people including a couple of Supra owners, one of which was my instructor for the weekend. Car is a blast to drive and shockingly quick considering it just has basic suspension mods and a stock tune. Spent the weekend passing everything and never got passed. Highlight of the weekend was having a gt4 rs behind me that couldn't hang in the corners but would catch me on the straights. Instructor from that car stopped by after the session to chat about the car, couldn't believe his student couldn't keep up.

Progressed out of the newbie group, will be running in the intermediate group at the next event in early May. Couldn't get out of that group fast enough, there are some people there that have no business driving on a race track. Also, I hate hate hate idiots who want to drag race down the straight and drive slow af in the corners and never allow a pass.

Take aways from the weekend
  • Tons to learn on becoming a better driver in this car. Just need seat time. Started taking some faster lines on day 2 which was a lot more fun. I would like to get into the more advanced group by year's end at which point I'll be buying a membership to MSR so I can run track days whenever I want.
  • I need data to analyze between sessions and a lap timer. Planning on picking up a Garmin Catalyst 2 before my next event but I'm open to suggestions if better equipment can be had around that price.
  • Car is setup for too much understeer right now which I expected with the stiffer front bar, no matching rear bar, and the staggered 265/305 setup. I plan to run this setup again for the May event then will get a dedicated set of track wheels/tires. Probably 18x10s to start. Longer term I'd like to run 18x11s with 295 tires. Also thinking about getting mcs 2wnr coilovers after to get out of the oem strut/spring fitment issues. Rear bar can wait a little longer I think. The coilovers would also help resolve ground clearance issues with running smaller diameter tires by controlling ride height(my driveway sucks if you haven't seen me complain about it already). I'll have some more time to think about it over the summer since that is our off season.
  • Heat is a problem, car felt like it was pulling timing and/or boost in the later sessions both days down the straights. I'll have the Wagner IM installed for the May weekend along with a p3 gauge so I can monitor temps better. I did activate the oem monitoring but that display is dim and hard to read. Not to mention I'm not great at converting C-> F on track. As much as it pains me to do this, I added a hood vent to the list of future mods.
Few pics from the weekend

Only pic I have from the professional photos that were shot over the weekend. Will post a few more when they get delivered.

Tires after one weekend. I believe this is the passenger side front which took the most abuse.

Exhaust re-colored itself from the heat. Neat.

Also, did you guys hear track day brake dust doesn't come off your wheels??? Me neither. 🤣🤣🤣

Parts starting to pile up again. More on the way.

Wagner IM going in this weekend. About to get started with the install. Gaskets on the runners are annoying to get seated. Might be the worst part of this install.

P3 vent gauge. Not sure if I'll get around to installing it this weekend or not.

PXL_20260401_214245537.webp

PMU 999 pads finally showed up this week. Took about 2 months to get these. 2 sets of fronts and 1 set of rears. Between these and the DTC 60/30s I have enough brake pads to last for quite awhile now, just need to find some cheap rotors so I have them on hand.

PXL_20260401_214139257.webp

Also have a set of 18x11 +40 Apex wheels ordered for a dedicated track set. Will probably move onto tuning and additional cooling mods after the next track weekend in a few weeks.

Yea that part sucks. I ended up using small little dabs of super glue to keep the gaskets seated and it's been fine for years now. :)

Just seated the gaskets, wasn't too bad, took about 10 minutes. Thin coating of silicone grease on the gaskets helps quite a bit. Now the question is will they stay in place when I go to seat the manifold onto the head. I can foresee quite a bit of cussing and the super glue coming out if they don't.

Manifold is in, hardest part were the water connections on the back near the firewall. Still need to do the throttle body and boost pipe and vac fill, will deal with that tomorrow morning. This is probably a 5-6 hour install and I was taking my time, not too bad. One thing I'll need to deal with is the plastic hose running across the front, its sitting on the front edge of the manifold which will rub and probably break eventually. I've also realized I don't have the ability to log since the car isn't tuned which is annoying.

You can log the car without a tune. Just pay for the MHD logging license.

Also, for others, taking out the cowl bits behind the manifold creates a TON more room to work those back coolant connections.

This is my M240i, but same same on the Supra

Finished up the install a little bit ago. Bleed procedure took a lot longer than I thought. I vac filled the system but that did not come close to getting the air out. I also ran the reservoir dry doing the bleed procedure the first time by not paying attention so that probably let a lot more air in.

Anyways, drove the car. All is good. No CELs, no weird behavior, no leaks, manifold is cool to the touch after driving. Feels like same temp as ambient.

On to the p3 gauge install, that will at least give me some temps to look at while driving.
