I honestly feel like the Supra is more fun to drive than a GTR. I've driven my Supra considerably more than my GTR in the 2 years I've had it. I'd rather get a GR Corolla over the new Z.

Them calling the Z a big Miata is an insult to Miatas. I've owned 6 miatas in my time across all generations....loved them...but from what I've experienced in my 6 Zs I've owned they are NOT the same. The 370z I owned was fat and soft...the 19' ND2 I owned handled a lot sharper than the 370z.

The new Z is a heavier 370z so I call BS on the Miata claim. They are just trying to bring the Miata's good name to make the Z buyers that are left feel good about themselves.

R&T is a joke...and that's why I stopped reading their crap a long time ago.
It was their Paywall that stopped me from reading that article

No offence to you if you enjoy your GTR, but that’s not exactly high praise. A GTR may be stupidly capable, but I don’t know many who consider it fun or engaging.

Yes but your other quote was drive what you like - personal preference etc. The value retention alone proves the worth of the GTR. Its world wide respected much like any good performance Porsche such as your GTS. Some of the 'slowest' cars Ive owned made me second guess my faster one's. Again its feel/preference/ time of the month LOL! :) :)

For me Throttle House is my go to over all else. I like Car & Driver, Hagerty, Savagegeese, but Road and Track has always been meh. I'd rather go read Consumer Reports than R&T.

I put a deposit down on the Performance Z last winter when the books opened in Canada because I only wanted a car with a manual transmission. Once the Supra MT was announced, I put a deposit down for one and thought I'd wait to see what comes.

I've since cancelled my Z deposit. The Supra is faster, and handles better, validated by numerous sources with track testing. I prefer the Z's cabin to the Supra's due to blind spots, but materials wise the Supra is better. The initial Hagerty video was disappointing for Zed fans, the Savagegeese Dyno video was more bad news for the the Z; the Throttle House video was the one that had me cancel the Zed order. Too softly sprung, brakes and exhaust need upgrading before you drive off the lot...no thanks.

Honestly I'm glad, even though I don't agree with the article, that somebody is giving Nissan the edge. I want these cars to keep being built and getting better each time. Hopefully Nissan sells each one they build and the segment can stay strong. Competition is a good thing, and I doubt the Supra MT would exist had Nissan not made the Z. Between the two I'll pick the fastest that I can still buy with a clutch.
They just dropped a drag race video with it

Interesting that R&T felt nismo brake pads were important to add to the Z right off the bat. Why not give the Supra something too just for fun? Say, TRD parts, or a stage one ECU tune? Maybe $10 for something to breakup wind buffet going into cabin? Cheaper than brake pads and just roll down the windows hooning around, it is fun. Just saying.

I never said it wasn’t respected. I said it wasn’t highly engaging. Big difference. Again, if you love it, that’s all that matters.

I’m not nostalgic at all to the Z brand, or to the Supra for that matter. I’m also not daily-driving my sports car. If I’m paying 50-60k for a sports car it needs to have excellent performance for that price range.

All the Z reviews I’ve seen show that its performance is a huge let down for what it costs. I could care less about nostalgia, how “live-able” the interior is, or how it will be to drive it to the local grocery store. The Z sounds like a vacuum cleaner and is getting gapped by everything in its price range. No thanks!

What a HUGE letdown this car has been. Shocking, really. On the Z forum you’ve got people saying that everyone knew it was going to be a GT car. Yeah right, they were foaming hoping it would be a ‘Supra Killer’. Pure, undistilled copium is available over there. Hopefully they’ll be happy with their purchase and don’t expect a 10k debt relief check for this one.

I upgraded my sway bars to make the car even more reactive to my inputs. So if they are saying that the Z has so much more body roll than the Supra then there is no way I’d like to drive that thing on the track.
Interesting to discover how much difference the '23 revisions make to the steering, it's certainly emphasised by GR as an area of focus:
  • Modified stabilizer bushings for improved initial steering response
  • Revised chassis control systems (AVS, electric power steering, and Vehicle Stability Control) for improved overall steering feel and controllability when pushing to the limits
  • Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) control and finely tuned shock absorber damping characteristics for improved roll balance and ride comfort
  • Weight reduction of 1.2 kg per wheel, contributing to improved ride comfort and handling stability due to resulting reduction in unsprung weight (Premium/GTS only)

Agreed. I drove around in a GTR quite a bit while shopping. Great car, but felt like a driving SIM. Ended up in something COMPLETELY different, sold after two months, then was sold on my Supra after the test drive. This car is a keeper.

I can't be the only one that heads straight to the Z forum to read their reactions to reviews and videos haha!
lol I did the same, in fact I went to see what they said before watching it lol. I get it, when you are a fanboi of XXXXXX you are going to defend it with a million excuses, every one does. We do with the Supras short comings, Mustang guys, Mopar guys, Camaro guys…. Doesn’t matter insert what ever in front of guys and there is someone defending it…… But some of the excuses over there hahaha. It’s not a sports car I don’t care that it brakes like crap over 100 it’s a GT car I’ll never do it hahahaha. Who would cross shop a Z with a Mustang or Challenger that was a dumb video lol, yeah because why would you spend the money on the Z when their arguments make both the Mustang and Challenger better cars.. “GT’s”

the cake.. Nissan will sell more Z’s in a year then Supras have so far… I don’t see it. The 370 hasn’t hit 5 digit sales in a year since 2010. I don’t see them hitting 16k+ in sales.

I too am guilty of this and I have zero interest in the Supra or Z lineage or "competition" or whatever else you call it.

Like a good train wreck, it is fun to watch though. ?

Don't get me wrong the R35 is an incredible car, and the few things I don't like about it are common with people who own them.

Bang for buck from a performance standpoint the car is really hard to beat, that's why I bought it. I've put 60k miles on the car in 9 years at FBO E85 mod wise and I haven't had one single problem with it. I beat the crap out of it every time I drive it, every single time. It'll cut consistent 1.5-1.6 60's on MPSS's and run 10.1's at the drag strip and I can drive it there and back. I've driven it all over the country with my mountain bike and golf clubs in the trunk lol.

But at the end of the day it's more engaging of a driving experience for me in my Evo's and the Supra. The first time I showed one of my friends rolling launch in the GTR he called it a robot car. And he's 100% correct, the car does most of the work for you.

I've been in 1500hp+ GTR's and I just can't justify spending that kind of money to build it, and its going to break more often. I'd rather spend the money on a different platform that offers a different experience or build something unique.

I used to have a 370Z and was really excited for the new Z. The front end has not grown on me at all though and it just overall doesn't feel like a $20k step up from my 370. I've got a deposit down on a manual Supra and test drove the auto the other day. Absolutely in love with everything about the car. The only gripe is the visibility which I quickly got used to.

This comparison seems heavily influenced. They're pointing out flaws and repackaging them as strengths for the Z. Makes no sense. I'm thrilled that Nissan released the Z with a manual but I feel like overall they fell short of my expectations. Can't wait to get my Supra.
