So if you can't win any objective tests, just come up with your own subjective criteria. I'll bet that guy probably holds several 1/4 mile records for fastest Z with a stock pcv system and heated seats or some other asinine criteria that excludes everyone faster.

He also definitely goes around talking about how his car is one of only 200 in 2009 in some specific color and trim combination with a manual and the floor mats from the factory.

They're unbearable in defeat, can you imagine how bad they would of been if the thing was faster?
I can think of 3 people who said this. Who was it?

The misinformation flowing over there is intense. They still think the Supra is just a re-skinned Z4 and wasn't even developed at all by Toyota. Same old song and dance.
My thoughts exactly. I echoed this same point a few weeks ago. They're insufferable lol. The general public don't think this way about it, because they're not fanatics. Fanaticism is pretty lame lol.

I swear, the people on that forum are as dumb as a box of rocks. Wtf. "If they called it something other than a Supra, i would respect it." wtf is that? Do one of those blindfold tests, if Car A (Supra) performs better than Car B (whatever car) and you admit it, then take the blindfolds off and see it's the MKV; "ohh i can't respect it, it's some bmw crap, it's not a real supra" man FOH.

He talks about "real car enthusiast" but knocks on the Toyota/ BMW partnership as if they commited taboo.. like as if NO OTHER car company collaborated/ partnered with each other. i don't even wanna comment on that thread on the Z forums cause it's like arguing with a wall.

I will say, I'm a lot happier with the Z forum's Offtopic stuff. That's some old-school community shit. I sorta wish we had more engagement in our OT threads.
Business only here, sir. No exceptions!

My brother tracks a '78 280Z. "Old-school community shit" perfectly describes him and his interactions surrounding the car. ?

Sometimes I feel like an outlier in the "car community". I don't care what car you drive or how you drive it. If it makes you happy then that's awesome. Too much dick measuring out here. A little friendly competition is fun. Being around toxic people is not.

I just personally enjoy going fast. That's it. I keep it simple.

Yeah the brand loyalty and rivalry in the car community is insane. These are giant corporations we're talking about, not your friends and family. Why would you be loyal to a company when the only aspect of you they give a shit about is how much of your money you give them.

Most people IRL are cool with whatever you drive and are genuinely interested to know more. The internet's relative anonymity allows the keyboard warriors to just go ultra-toxic.

As others have said go with what you like.

If you like the looks of the Z better go with it. The Z isn't faster or a whole ton cheaper when compared to a Supra. But you know what it is? Close enough that if you're willing to spend more you could beat a Supra with less mods.

Is the new Z a Supra killer? No. Mod for mod will it be faster? No. So you want to be faster, just have more mods than the other guy.

Adm aside. 41k for sport, 5k for wheels and tires, 3k for lsd, 3k for brakes and you're at Supra 3.0 price. But you are a bit more customized to your liking. Also unknown at this point, but ecu tuning hopefully won't require an expensive clone and unlock.

So if the ecu tuning is cheaper you can then pay for more parts. The bad, twin turbos = 2x the parts. Labor on that motor will be a whole lot more for an upgraded turbo too. Also unknown is the upper limit on that transmission.

52k with the previously mentioned upgrades, add in fbo, ethanol, some coolers, little weight reduction... just say ball park 8k. And you will walk a stock Supra and probably to those limited to ots piggy back tunes.

But you'll still be stuck inside that cheap interior in a car you've spent 60k on. Then again it's all mental gymnastics that we all go through justifying either.
I think you hit on the nail - there are a lot of compromises and mental gymnastics we all do when it comes to cars. I can hit illegal speeds in 2nd gear (and my car is pretty damn slow); so anyone who looks to mod is going to be throwing money down the drain.

Quite honestly I think most car enthusiasts (the ones that sit on forums and even forums of cars they don't own haha) will look at the base price of $41k and compare it to the upper trim Z that is offered - for that additional $ - you're right - throw in an exhaust, wheels, LSD and brakes - and you'll have a superior Z over the Performance Z. And as you said - going with FBO - you'll be quite fast - even compared to the Supra.

The one thing (unless I missed it) the OP didn't mention is if he wants a standard or auto. If an auto - to me the choice is easy - go with the Supra. If you want a manual - well I would lean more towards the Z - only reason why I say this that there isn't any cost information as well as if this will be a limited run for the Supra with a MT. Regardless - as much as others might disagree - there is 'fun factor' with cars and not just 'straight line speed' -- hence why I would definitely get a manual regardless of how much 'faster' any auto is. Just my .02.

This is the level of the intelligence over there.

https://www.nissanzclub.com/forum/t...2-gr-supra-3-0-premium-review.1232/post-35457

Doesn't seem to realize that functionally from a driving perspective, that an F1 transmission or a rally car's sequential transmission is more akin to driving a road cars automatic than it does with rowing the gears and using a clutch like in a traditional manual setup.

Even these modern manuals with their "no lift" upshifts and computer controlled rev matched down shifts is hardly a "pure experience", it just eliminates the areas that involved the real skills with driving a manual.
“I don't know about Indy Car, but then they only go around a big circle, so they don't even know what corners are, so sticking their foot to the floor is all they need to do anyway.”
This was my favorite line from his post. Might want to check the schedule, bud.
